Strange Blue Smoke

Picked up my D3 from bodyshop yesterday , car had been in for 2 days for paint.

Started car and drove 100yds to next garage and parked up.

30mins later drove off again and approx 1/2mile later cloud of blue smoke came out form under the vehicle at about 25mph.

Mate who was following me said it just appeared and then dissapeared and was thick enough to be alarming.

Parked the car up to let it cool down and then in the evening tried to repeat the problem but all was clear.

Car is only 36K miles .

Any thoughts wopuld be appreciated

Condensation burn-off from your exhaust Thumbs Up Nothing to worry about ....or your fuel burning heater if it was coming from the front Thumbs Up Again nothing to worry about

Mine has done this from time to time, I'm sure its not FBH. Martin was following me in Wales once, and he said it was coming from the exhaust. It soon clears and does not seem to be symptomatic of a problem, and no issues have ensued in 118k miles.

Happens a lot if the car has been sitting with the engine running but not moving. Thumbs Up

Thanks Gents , thats more reassuring

I guess that the body shop may have had the car ticking over for some time.

It did seem to have used a lot of fuel for no miles

The FBH was also running and may also have been contributing

Diesel:
white = water
blue = oil
black = diesel

What you have can be unburnt residu from engine or exhaust, your engine is now 'burning clean'.
Not to worry.

In general, if temp is ok and it sounds good, I don't worry about a diesel engine Wink but that's a VERY simple rule of thumb.

Wiljo

It could have been just a small drop of oil on the outside of the exhaust, i've had similar symptoms after I,ve worked on cars with oily or dirty hands. Smile

Its better if I remain silent and be thought a fool than to open my mouth and confirm it.
