Strange creaky noise that I cant locate!
Hi Folks - the topic title is about as vague as it gets!
2007 D3 TDV6 ~130k miles - its had a slight knock occasionally when going over bumps for a few weeks. I keep meaning to get it up in the air to take a look. This morning SWMBO reports that it creaks/knocks slightly if you brake gently (its more of a creak than a knock from what i can tell having had a look at it just now).
Seems to be drivers side. Worse when the suspension is at normal height. Worse on a slight right turn but will do it when pointing straight. No Nothing is loose. Top arm bushes at the front look like they could do with changing but there is no play that I can easily see. Noise only seems to really occur when braking. Less so if you jab the brakes hard rather than brake gently.
Lower arms have the HD Meyle bushes fitted - they've been in about five years I think (I did them pre Covid). Top arms could be original. Brakes were done recently and are fine. I cant feel any play in the ARB arms or bushes but its all on the ground currently so under tension. It drives fine, no vagueness or looseness.
Dont think its the lock stops as it makes the noise in a straight line - i.e. when they arent engaged and thats more of a grinding noise. This sounds more like movement of a dry bush to me.
Any ideas or anyone had similar?

Anti-roll bar and drop links maybe
I had mine refreshed a couple of years ago as the rubbers were shot! Not saying that relates directly to your noise but something else to have a check of (give them a 'nudge' with a crow bar for instance).

This seems most likely to me but wanted someone else to say it. I think these typically squeak and groan as the bar moves a little as the wheels are turned and the car moves about. Might squirt some WD40 around the bush for now to see if that eliminates the noise so at least would confirm it is them.

I had the same, never could find it until I changed all the suspension arms. Was a top arm bush separated from the tube.

Top bushes it is then. Pretty sure that's it. They don't look great anyway so need doing.
How easy are they to do? Most stuff looks accessible other than one bolt head behind the strut.
AF have Febi (90£ ish), Dayco (30£ish i think) and Borg and Beck (40£ ish but with bolts) on their site as complete arms. Am thinking Febi. Borg and Beck are but a name now.

Is there any practical way to torque those bush nuts up with a torque wrench or is it a waste of time trying to faff getting one in there? I hate not torqueing these things to their specified values but it doesnt look like there is any access for a socket, let alone a torque wrench!
(any thoughts on brands to buy from AF or whether others are available that anyone would recommend? I dont know what genuine prices are like but suspect more than I want to pay. Was hoping for some Meyle ones but AF dont seem to have any)

No, no room for torque wrench. Just 3 ft's on the spanner! Febi should be ok, but who knows these days. Probably all come out of the factory in China.Richard

Hmm. Autodoc have Meyle for £66 and Lemforder for £80. There is a Genuine LR pair on ebay that would come to £220 in total.
The two Lemforder ones from autodoc are probably the best value for money and what LR would have fitted originally anyway unless anyone thinks Meyle are better?

My D4 was doing it and only slightly improved by replacing the ARB bushes.
Sprayed around the front O/S with silicon spray, doing one corner at a time to pinpoint the cause. Had no effect for some weeks, was about to hit the nearside only to realise the noise had stopped.A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

Mine is doing exactly the same,
After a couple of hours checking and running up road with chassis ear clipped on in various places it's Antiroll bar bushes, forced some silcon oil between bush and bar with a syringe and it's disapeared, the occasional knock I was sure it was one of the arm bushes.
Got new roll bar bushes and links sat waiting to be fitted.

I was chasing a similar noise on my D3 for over a year, tried a few different garages who couldn't identify/resolve the issue. Took to a LR specialist (shout out to Promec Llantrisant!) who identified lower arms and front ARB bushes. Car is as tight as a drum and finally all knocking/creaking gone until the next one comes along
