Strange noise at idle

Hi
Have just picked up my new D3 HSE Auto, and after three years in an XS D3, I can hear a strange noise once the engine is running. It can't be heard outside the car, but for all the world is like the FBH that was in my old Freelander. It is a sort of cross between a groan and a worn bearing noise.
I was wondering if there are known issues with the Torque convertor, or anything on the back end of the engine.
Will be taking back to the dealer on Monday when the service manager is back from his hols, but just thought I would post up here first to see if anyone else had come across this.

Mike

Does this noise change or dissappear when you turn the climate control OFF?

What about if you try to turn the steering wheel?

Does it still do it with the auto-box in 'N'?

Cooo that was quick!
Cheers for the welcome.
The noise is there with climate control off, recirc or outside air.
It remains the same whether in park, neutral or drive.
I double checked with it in the command shift position, and the noise is constant.
Turning the steering wheel makes no change.

Cheers for that.
Was doing it from new, so I wouldn't expect that, but who is to say?
Will check the VIN number when SWMBO comes in.
It certainly sounds as if it is coming from the bulkhead area.

Cheers for the info though.

Hi there, sorry that I can't be of help to you, Roverdrive. I have the problem that PaulP has mentioned. When the climate control is on, it makes a noice when you drive. at low range you hear it more. When you turn off the climate control, you no longer hear it.
Can you help me please? Thank you!

Sorry Michele, I can't help you with that one, but I think I have sussed mine out.
The noise appears to be coming from the HP Fuel pump at the back of the engine, but it can't be heard under the bonnet.
The sound appears to have been transmitted in to the cabin by a section of wiring harness which was resting against the steel of the bulkhead. The noise has been reduced by moving the wiring harness to rest against the sound proofing.
Just need to get another D3 alongside now to compare the fuel pump noise with a stethescope to see if the pump should actually be exchanged. Mr. Green
