Stratstone - Edinburgh.

Hi all.

I know Stratstone can come in for a bit of slagging but I've got to give a thumbs up to Stratstone in Portobello Road, Edinburgh. Our D3 was in for the dreaded EGR problem yesterday. I picked up the car today and they'd reduced my bill to £337 from the estimate of £380 (still a bit painful), plus they had replaced a blown brake light bulb and returned the car cleaned inside and out.

So as I say a big Thumbs Up from me.

Whytes just behind Haymarket would have done it for half that price. Strip down, clean, grease, rebuild and set-up was £90 on my old D3.

Glad you had good service, as the few times I have used them it was total pants Thumbs Up

Hi JKP
I pass the end of Washington Lane (off Dalry Road Edinburgh) twice every day and was not aware that Whites were there. If you would recommend them then please raise a new topic summarising what they can do as it would be good to have more options for having work done on D3's in the Edinburgh area.

Hi,in the short time that I've been a forum member they have popped up on a number of threads.Always well thought of.A quick google search will direct you to their site.Haven't used them personally but was impressed enough by the comments to add them to my "favouites"list for use in future when car is out of warranty.

Well I have used Stratstone's for years and always received excellent service BUT, and this is the important bit, I deal with the same bloke every time. Generally I find it easier to do business with a person rather than a company. I have now bought 7 cars from them in various guises.

Equally, when I had to go to one of their other branches for a quick fault I had a terrible experience.

My advice FWIW is to find a decent bloke in your chosen dealer and stick with him. Preferably an old school type salesman who have done the job all their lives rather than one of the less auto industry orientated people who just see it as a job.

Anyway, glad you had a decent experience. I like Stratstones and would always go back.

We have been using Whites at Dalry since jkp recommended them last year. No real issues. They seem slightly cheaper than Stratstone (although the work we've had done wasn't cheap by any means) and have good knowledge (most of them are ex-Pentland workers). Mostly use them for convenience.

One problem - had the MOT done last year and they passed it without problem. Following day we were informed that 3 out of 4 tyres were illegal and below the wear limit. Why did Whites pass it....?

Whites at Dalry

Hi
Ive used Whites a few times for odds and ends the guys seem to be very helpful and quite knowlegable with anything land rover they also have full Diagnostic capabilities. (Autologic)
The guy that own's the garage is called Andy and seems to know his stuff so they get the thumbs up from me for their helpfullness and their pricing seems to be very reasonable, but its like anything it all depends on what you need doing and what you expect to be reasonable if youve got loads of money you might think the dealers are resonable but if your skint then anything over a £100 is expensive
cheers
