Strip and rebuild valve blocks

Hi.

I have 'normal height only' fault. reservoir filling too slowly. Took out the AMK compressor yesterday and renewed the dessicant and o ring.

Fault still there so I'm thinking leak or knackered compressor. One possible cheap option is to rebuild the valve blocks and install new o rings etc. Anyone got a link to the right kit for a D3?

Also would pulling fuse 26 be any help in this circumstance? I don't see that the vehicle drops over night.

I did try the soap sprayer trick around the air tank but it's impossible to see the top of the tank so any leak there wouldn't be detectable using soap.

Also is there any tutorial out there for tracing all the pipework and checking that?

I tell you it's a big commitment owning one of these things!!!

Any help appreciated.

Adri

I've just bought one of these kits

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Discovery-Air-S...ctupt=true

Used one of the sets to rebuild the front valve block on mine which worked a treat, thought it was a cheap place to start with the front dropping overnight.

Its an easy job but watch the videos online as there are more parts than first appear when you open the case.

If your vehicle has the original compressor fitted, it'll now be 12 years old and whaaaaay past it's usable life. You'll chase your tail renewing bits and pieces, changing seals, desiccant etc. etc. etc. but you really need to dig deep, spend the money and replace that knackered old compressor.

They do not last for ever and at 12 years old, you cannot really complain. For sure it could be something else but that compressor will be on it's last legs anyway so swap it now and if it doesn't resolve the issue, you can always change the reservoir later. You'll then have replaced the two main parts and eliminated them.

Thx.

It's an 07 Disco. The compressor is an AMK. Doesn't that suggest it has already been replaced at some stage?

Cheers

I'm pretty sure I know what the answer will be but has anyone experience of these...

The trader has pretty good feedback if that counts for anything.

It does but presumably you don't know when it was replaced, how old the pump is etc. and as there are posts on here where other owners have reported some AMK compressors only lasting 2 years.............you can see where this is leading. Big Cry

Change it or keep wondering and throwing money at other items, it's your call.

Date stamp on the compressor is 17-09-2014 so it's 4 or 5 years old.

I'm going to buy an air reservoir tank as that is an £90 spend and the old tank looks quite dodgy.

Cheers
