2014 BMW 435d convertible. Bought July 2021. 58,000 miles and counting...

The disc's should still go on even without service mode, as has been mentioned earlier the wedge adjuster via the allen key needs to be fully off, and make sure the spring thats on the spreader bar has not got caught up on the bar.

The module only unwinds until there is no tension on the cables
If the shoes have been seized, the cables will not be wound out far enough, keeping the shoes partly engaged, and unable to refit the disc
There is a way to do it without diagnostic tools, or opening the module, but it's something I'd ever recommend My D3 Build Thread

Well, I’ve got the discs back on so I’ll get it all put back together and take it for a drive and try the bed in procedure for the EPB shoes and see what’s what. D3 with lots of d4 extras!

Did the bedding in of the shoes and everything seems to be working fine. EPB is releasing and no excessive heat, so they seem to have sorted themselves out on the inside of the discs. D3 with lots of d4 extras!

Well done. Just keep an eye on it. I know many say they never use the parking brake, but my theory is to use as much as possible to keep things moving, and to keep your ears tuned to how it’s working.

Well done, great work.
Dont let the awkwardness of doing that job put you off looking at them regularly. If I were you I would get a few hundred miles done and a few dozen uses of it, then adjust it again using the Bible. Then every 6 months / 10000 miles or so.
A well serviced and regularly adjusted EPB will last a very long time. 2022 BMW i4 M50. Bought Oct 2022. 10,200 miles and counting...
2014 BMW 435d convertible. Bought July 2021. 58,000 miles and counting...

Cheers guys... yeh, i use the epb every day as the driveway is on a slight incline, so definitely tuned in to how it sounds and operates. Also one that believes in regular use is better than no use.
I think its a good shout to go check it again in perhaps a month, not getting mush use atm lol. See if it can be adjusted and make sure things are moving still.
Thanks for the tips.
Will eventually get round to tackling the dust shields... bought replacements thinking they would be easy enough to change over.... oh no.. arms etc off and hub!!! Will need access to a press too, as i don't have one. Definitely one for another day! D3 with lots of d4 extras!
