Suggestion for new topic area: GPS/Maps

After AndrewS' successful Navigation challenge this weekend Bow down I got to thinking that there may be some mileage (no pun) in having an area dedicated to GPS, SatNav Software and Mapping Software related issues. e.g. D3 SatNav hacks, map upgrades, peoples' GPS hardware and software setups, in-car laptop brackets, GPS holders, vendor recommendations etc.

What do you think?

I don't think it's down to me. I think a popular groundwell of opinion is required to pursuade the Powers That Be. i.e. Martin to create the topic area.

Does five replies constitute a groundwell yet? Whistle

I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

We can have a sticky with the differences between the various satnav dvds for a start.

GPS observations:

I have a Garmin Nuvi 310 with latest maps in my D3 and I have Tom Tom software on my PDA (HTC Advnatage) with latest maps. I find that the Garmin is much better in Ireland as the Tom Tom keeps telling me that I am off roading!!! - the accuracy of the maps is pants.

During my trip to the UK last weekend was surprised that the Garmin couldn't find IKEA in Cardiff, AndrewS's place or the hotel in west Wales from their postcodes. Yet the Tom Tom worked perfectly with all 3. Anyone know of updates to the Postcode search for Garmin?
