Sunroof - is it water resistant ?

My sunroof has been left open on the first opening on a few occasions recently (including overnight) and a downpour has ensued. After cursing myself and thinking the inside of the car would be a swimming pool, I was pleasantly surprised to find no water had leaked in at all !

Does anyone know if this is by design ? It would be nice to know that when sleeping in the back that the sunroof could be cracked open in rain without fear of leakage.

United Kingdom

It has a drainage system, involving a channel around the inside of the opening, with 4 drain tubes, 2 at the front corners, and 2 at the rear corners. It works fine until the drains block up.

There are several posts on here about clearing blocked drains, some just blow the tubes through, others have to reroute kinked pipes or cut the ends of the so called non return valves that sit at the end and get gummed up.
