Suspension and brake issues - Only owned my D3 for a day!

So... I've always wanted a Disco. My Pathfinder got written off on 4th of Jan as we hydrolocked it (couldn't believe it) so I bought a Disco3 2007 yesterday with my insurance payout.
2007, 190k miles,2 owners, service history.
Drove it home last night from Silverstone to Kent. No problems. Well today... I was driving and just slowing but seemed to momentarily have no brakes and pedal felt hard, then, parking up, on a hill, brakes are burbling/gurgling away and then no brakes at all! Just kissed my neighbours bumper. Thought it was me, then it did it to my husband. Looks like I'm going to have a battle on my hands to get the PO17 recall done again, as it's not showing as outstanding.
Now the suspension, (went for a little drive out as was trying to explain it's reluctance to pull away from a standstill) however as we were doing about 40mph, the suspension warning came up, Car lowered itself right down and turned into a lowrider, bouncing all over the place, pulled over, turned it off and on, and it would not rise up, so turned it off again, then it was too hot and, then it finally did, slowly. Did it again 10 minutes later, back would raise but not the front. Then the front came up a bit. I want to go greenlaning, but I dare not at the moment!

Have you had the codes read RE suspension? If not, buy an IID tool to narrow down what you’re looking for, or take it to a good indi to sort for you.

Ouch not a good start.

The Discovery is a senstive beast and does require regularly TLC. Agree with the code reader. My first purchase and I wouldnt be without.

Suspension sounds like air leaks/excessive air consumption due to leaks. Get that sorted ASAP or you will kill the the compressor and just increase the cost to fix.

I suffered this. Felt all happy previous owner had fitted a new compressor - turns out the old compressor only died due to leaks and hence over heating of the compressor though operating too often. He had not found the root cause. I paid for another compressor and the replacement air tank to fix the issue.
Series one 1949 - in bits, chassis is strapped to the ceiling in my garage (beside the canoe)
LR 90 - In bits
Disco 3 - currently in bits

Did you buy it through a garage? as it will have a three month warranty.

Seems I can do about 8 miles before the suspension error pings up and the orange light comes on as been out to get fuel and pump a tyre up. Did about the same miles yesterday.
Going to call the dealer that I bought it from today, see what he says

Don't be fooled by the Dealer if he tells you its down to a flat battery, motor has been sitting and needs a good run or some such rubbish.
The codes need read to give an indication of whats not working correctly.
Keep on his case and try and get a copy of the fault codes.

I have just experienced suspension problems yesterday - straight after the heavy rain and my footwell filling with water. I dried it out and it seemed OK. Now this morning the suspension went fully up without a problem but as soon as I began driving the light came on again. On the 4X4 screen the left rear wheel looks lower on the screen than the rest.

Suspension problem could be just a failed height sensor.

Brake problem sorted with a new servo, they fail eventually on most cars (even after having the mod done on these)

Code readers are helpful if you know how to interpret the information and have the tools to fix.

Don't despair its an old car now and just needs a bit of TLC preferably via Land Rover Specialists.

Thank you all, my husband said hopefully it's a sensor, he's very handy ,does all the work on our cars (with my old truck it was A LOT) One of his customers has a great Indie garage and has done many a favour so I'll get him to have a look for me.
I fully expect to spend some money on her, just not within 24 hrs Embarassed belts need doing next year but made him take a chunk of money off for them.
Also. He said it's had full service plus new alternator, battery, but nothing stamped in the book. Shall I send it back to him for a stamp?
I am usually more careful, but it was dark (yard , raining, cold and we had to take our 3 kids with us)
Just Spoken to Marshall Landrover in Cambridge. The technicians have said that they have never heard of the PO17 recall failing after it's initial fix!

I've rung them back and spoke to a really helpful lady and she says they have no record of the recall being done, just the services and a new hose. However the pipe work is there under the bonnet.
I've spoken to Guy Salmon as they're nearer and they still want to charge me £180 diagnostics just to check?

if you think, you can claim a kind off warranty, you need to go back to the seller and together with them to the workshop who did the services and let them solve the issues...

go to another workshop and you can forget any claims... that is how it works...

24h is very early..... write today a email or letter with a warranty claim to the seller... details can be solved later..

if bought very cheap and you discarderd warranty's etc. to get a good price... your loss.. then go to an LR indie with D3 experience and let them do the diagnostics and repair...

diagnosing is not just plug in a free tool and after 5 mins you know what the issue is...

those specific LR tooling is very very expensive and... on these land rovers, issue 1 can be caused by issue 5... so a code gives sometimes just a route... but not in one click THE problem...

and a totally different issue (like low battery) can cause the suspension drop (not the type you discribed though, but you never know... i see things like "new"alternator... if the old is still there (not stamped you said) and charges bad... lowering suspension (complete car) is common symptom
 Best regards
Harold

If you can't get the brake issue done for free, and what with your other problems you should consider rejecting the car if possible.

At a guess it could easily cost £700 at garage prices to fix 2 issues

Also, Being a 2007 you must get the Oil pump changed at the same time at the cam belt. (you will have to pay that for yourself)

Had the codes read, cleared them and read again and among the many, there is a code coming up on the front right height sensor.
Oh and the alternator isn't new either, the battery is but not not alternator. Also with the brakes, the gurgling running water sound when they're on is loud enough for me to have recorded on my phone!
I'm fine with the oil filter with the belts, I factored those in, just not all this...
