Suspension failure - LR10 fusable link blown |
|
This morning the D3 gave me a suspension warning. I cleared the faults and all seemed fine - suspension went up and down no problem on the driveway.
Later on it started telling me that the suspension wouldn't rise until the "system cooled", and basically it sank down to the bump stops. I nursed it home - it handled ok, but I was thankful the roads in Brittany are generally very smooth, as any undulations set it bouncing around.
After another stop and restart, the suspension warning was on again. I checked the faults and they were C1A27 ("compressor circuit") and C1A20 ("pressure increases too slowly when filling the reservoir"). I also checked the fuses and found that the fusable link LR10 (a 60A one!) had blown.
Given that I am in the -end of nowhere in rural France, what are my chances of sorting this out?
Has anyone any experience of LR10 going, and what causes it? Has my compressor gone?
If I can find a replacement, how easy is it to change these fusable links? Would it be a good idea to just try replacing this?
Any advice would be gratefully received - I'm a bit worried about how I'm going to get this fixed. I could get it done under warranty, but the stealer is a sea away in Ireland!

At a guess I would say your compressor has gone or you have a cable short.
You could check, if you have a multimeter, for resistance on the output side of the fuse to see if you have a short.
Suspect you may have a problem in getting a replacement fuse.
Good Luck

Is LR10 the square yellow fuse (can't remember without looking)?
If it is, my compressor threw it's crank bearing and a couple of the ball bearings jammed the motor This caused the windings to overheat and short out, this made the fuse blow. Once the compressor is off it's easy enough to strip down to see if there's anything visually wrong. Faultmate MSV2 EXTREME

ndsykes wrote:pressure increases too slowly when filling the reservoir would suggest the piston or bore of the compressor has worn and no longer creates enough pressure (assuming you have no leaks). lower and raise the car from the same side as the compressor and see if it is noisier than usual. the fuse may be a knock on effect of an overworked compressor. with appropriate tools it is just a half hour job to change. can you not get the warranty work done where you are as it is a worlwide warranty?

Thanks for the tips guys. I suspect the compressor is the problem, but proving it and getting it fixed may be difficult. I'll be onto the dealer back in Ireland this morning to see what they can do to help (some hope, I suspect)...

Sounds like compressor has overworked causing the fuse to blow. Also possible that the compressor relay has stuck on causing the compressor to run all the time causing it to overheat and blow the fuse. Either I would advise new compressor, fuse, relay and have a software update carried out for the suspension ECU to make the system work on lower pressures.

Dealer has advised me to get it fixed in France by 'local' LR concessionaire and send them the bill. Which is nice...
