Suspension Fault
Hi
My 2005 D3 HSE Auto (warranty just expired!!) has recently developed a suspension fault - "Suspension Fault - Normal Height Only".
I have it booked into my local dealer, but having read some of your horror stories would appreciate it if anyone can brief me what to expect. According to the dealer the vehicle has undergone the "enharncement program" in 2006.
Also does anybody have any recommendations for extended warranty? The LR warranty from my dealer was extortionate, although will probably seem cheap compared to a replacement compressor.
Any advise much appreciated.
Thanks.
I have the same age Discovery with the same fault just appeared as a message. Hope someone can answer both of us.seems to ping on every few miles now but is not there immediately we go anywhere.
Regarding extended warranties, have a search around this site. There's plenty of info to find if you have a dig around! Now an ex-D3 owner after 7 happy years. Miss the car but not the big bills

It was initially stuck on access height & the drive was very lumpy, but has now returned to normal - I'm scared to change it now! The compressor is making all the usual "farts", so it mus be levelling. Mine is the same as 3rdTL - the warning does not come on immediately after starting but after a short run.

My experience, on 05MY vehicle, warning bing and amber light developed 2years 10 months after purchase. Initally only occurred about 6 minutes into journey but subsequently much sooner after starting. with multi sound warning. Warnings sounded when high speed approached (130km/h in Belgium) or under sharp cornering.
Dealer changed 4 way valve under enhancement programme, out of warrenty, but declined to replace compressor, although fault remained. Advised, "Compressor very weak, damaged by faulty valve"
Obtained exchange compressor from Nick, (<£200), and changed myself. No further problems.
LR seem to have fingerred the valve as the underlying fault and after changing compressors, under their customer assurance program, then had a policy of only changing the valve.
Relevant questions would seem to be;
Has the 4 way valve been changed?. If not replacement compressors are also likely to fail.
Has the compressor been changed?
Are LR prepared to pay for a replacement compressor or to make a contribution?
Is the replacement compressor new or factory exchange?. (The latter are fine and considerably cheaper)
There are other reasons for suspension failure. The above is just my experience of what seems to be the most common.
Interested to know how it turns out for both of you

I have had a similar problem but only started after I jet washed the vehicle a while back. It would then go away when dry and then when it was wet again it would come back on. I have found that raising the vehicle and then spraying the ride height sensor wire connections with WD40 or similar makes the problem go away (I think that the water is getting in and causing a problem). Several reasons for this ...all found in links on the following threads
LR diagnosed leaky compressor yesterday when they wired us up to see if the computer had logged any faults when the 'Suspension fault - normal height only' message appeared.
NEW COMPRESSOR being fitted as I write under warranty (was extended when vehicle 3yrs old to be on the safe side - going on previous experience as a LR owner).
We will see ..........

mine got a fault 'normal height only' but would go when switched off and back on again. suspension would go up and down ok, but after a while of driving, the fault came back 'normal height only'. after switching it off and back on again, the suspension would take ages to raise up and the message on the dash said 'suspension raising slowly' NEVER! i could see it was taking ages to raise. anyway booked it in for a check and the dealer said it was the compressor and replaced it there and then. mines under warranty tho, so didnt cost me anything.
Sorry didn't realise how old the thread was
I'm going to bed before I write more crap

The suspension failed completely the day before it was booked into the dealer. I pulled up onto the forecourt with it flat on deck - much to the amusement of the service team. Believe me you only appreciate suspension when its gone, not a comfortable ride.
Dealer diagnosed failed compressor. Quoted me £400 with a re-manufactured part but turned out that was on extended delivery, ended up paying £500 fitted. Must say Guy Salmon Landrover in Stratford upon Avon were fantastic, (I was amazed, having used 2 previous dealers in Birmingham & Solihull)
All hunky dory now.
