Suspension and Fuel

My 2008 Discovery 3 when stationary overnight the air suspension drops
lower.

When I start up the vehicle again the suspension system lifts the to normal
road use height.

I have not noticed this before, is this correct ?

The suspension warning lamp in the instrument pack that illuminates red and
amber turns off as per the hand book which signals all is well.

I look forward to the experts reply

By the way I notice the discussions on fuel economy, mine seems to be slightly
better the manufactures published data for the automatic. This is a first
for any vehicle that I have owned and a lot better than the V8s I have owned
before.
I am at a lost to understand how the range and the trip on the computer are
accurate and the fuel readout is Mickey Mouse.

Brilliant car though.

The air suspension does all sorts of strange things.
Mine will rise slightly if it gets hotter after parking (some hope just now in the UK)
Will drop if it gets cooler a few hours after parking
And sometimes it will sit where I left it.
Loading and unloading without starting can cause a fair bit of confusion.

There are several reasons of this, the biggest is that the D3 will try to stay at the parked height, but will consume air if it has to go raise, or is rocked (which can confuse the suspension into thinking one of the springs is a bit soft).

On your question about the fuel consumption guessing meter. They are born liars, and some are born optimists as well. Distance to go gradually gets more accurate as zero is approached, which can lead to some tense moments if you run to far.......

Hi Rob

Thank you for your expert help this site is brilliant if ever the car does develope a problem it allows you to tell the dealer its not a one off as they all like to say. Just take print out of known faults to LR dealer reception sort as list. Wish I had a forum for a the problems I had with the Merc. I have had three new Land Rovers all V8is two discos and Range Rover Classic previous to this one. Apart from an engine blowing up at 35000 miles under warranty they have all been reliable I was doing 50000 mile a year in each. Picked this 2008 one up 6 months old with 7k its a GS I am just a bit wary of two many electrics hence why I bought GS. Must say though the ride and the engine low noise levels are exceptional I never bought the LR diesels before because they were so loud, I miss the shove of the V8s but its about 50% better on fuel so I am more than happy especially as it seats seven and considering its weight.

Thanks again

Mel

I too come from a LR V8 back ground, a modded 4.6 in a 110 (now that defined the V8 kick....), a 4litre Classic (nice, but getting a bit crusty) and a 4 litre P38 (enough said - worst of the bunch).
The Disco is easily the most civilised of the bunch, and if anything a better load lugger than the 110, but maybe not quite so much fun at the lights Whistle
At 92,000 miles the TDV6 feels as if its just getting run in! Looking forward to the next 190,000 miles Very Happy

I avoided buying the P38 mine was one of the last classics M Reg it was a company car. They were always sold at 120000 miles which was annoying as it was mainly used on the motorway and was as tight as a drum the second owner was on a winner. As I am now retired this Disco 3 has got to last so I am delighted that you are building up the miles and If you do not mind I can cross reference any problems with you if I have any [or vice versafor that matter]

Thanks again

Do it in the public of the forum then we can all chip in and keep each other amused/amazed/confused.

Some folk on the forum really know the D3 inside out and upside down. I won't embarrass them just now, I'll let them do it for themselves (often they are the quite one's that everyone else talks about in hushed, reverent tones)

My plan is also to keep the D3 for a good few years as I can't see anything on the market that fits my bill as well (unless of course someone would like to fund me a new D4......).

I've just realised you live in the same county as I work, beware of a silver 54 plate "S" driven by a grumpy old man who wears sun glasses most of the time Whistle
