Jean-Paul how long have you had the car?
The first week I had my D3, I wouldn't consider any turn at more than 30-40kph too (mind you my other car is a Cooper S - talk about extreme opposites!)... but then I drove from London to Athens and never looked back on the matter.
I guess it's a matter of habit and getting used to the car, and the more you push the car's and your limits, the more comfortable you are going to feel at speed. I think it will take a considerable amount of lateral G-force to tip the D3 over on flat tarmac (I good friend's guess is doing over 100kph and attempting a sharp ->45degrees- turn). I drive the D3 regularly at over 150kph on the motorways and it's probably the most comfortable and "I-feel-safe-now" car I have experienced. Other than wind noise (don't forget you are effectively shooting a box on wheels through the air) which I find annoying (but then again 14 speakers help on this 8) ), I can't really fault it.
(clearly the above applies assuming no problems exist - happy to meet if you want and check things out if you're in the area)
edit: haven't noticed the lowering at over 160kph, is this a fact or our feeling? It's hard to visually notice at that speed though anyway...

Miguel wrote:I seem to recall that the suspension of the Discovery 3 does lower a bit after reaching the 160kph and remains lowered if you don't drop below 130kph.
I find my disco quite stable at relatively high speed on motorway when I drive it (not so much when SWMBO does), I think the word to describe the way to drive it is "finesse" 8) , without sudden moves and always antecipating what is in front of you.
Also note that the added weight of 4 will make it more unstable! The correct pression in the tires for carrying 5 persons should improve your experience though.
Cheers,

can someone confirm that in regards to the lowering above 160 km and staying there if you don't drop below 130 ? that would be the answer to my problem. Also getting used to the way the car handles of course. I have had the car only some months now and haven;t been able to go to highway besides yesterday. maybe i need to spend more time with the car... J.p

I can't believe I just went to the vehicle to get the manual out... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

I drive my G4 regulary above 130 km/hr. Normally around 140km/hr and a little more in Germany.
I think the car is very stable even at 195 km/hr. Or with my whole family plus camping gear at between 140 and 150 km/hr.
Yes it is not a sports car and it rolls but it can do more then most people would expect.
Maybe that my back ground is a little different, a Camel Discovery 300TDI without anti-roll bars gives a good 2CV feeling.
If you have strange feeling changing lanes I think you have to get you suspension checked. Roel

I would think the D3 may feel more wallowy when it lowers (try driving in acces height). “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Nope, it tightens up nicely. If I'm on a long run in the dead of night I'll wang it up to 100mph / 160kmh to get it to lower, then set cruise control at just over 80mph /135kmh. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Yes, guys it is a fact that D3 lowers one inch after reaching 160 kph.Our car has seven ,yes, seven suspension modes.
-transportation mode(bumps stops)witch is only accessible via dealer's computer
-access height mode
normal on road mode +2 "
-off-road +2"
extended mode +2 electronic
super extended mode +2 manual
high speed mode-suspension lowers one inch for better handling, less drag.

is there an alert tone to let you know that the car is lowering when it reaches 160kmph ? or does it just happen in the background ?

My previous car was 2.7t Audi Allroad and when I got the D3 the roll was a bit offputting. Now I am used to it though I find it's actual capabilities amazing. Yes it leans but on country roads where I am very familiar I can really punt it round the bends and find mine very stable on the motorway at 100mph or so. I would find a new or nearly new similar example at a dealer and compare it on a high speed test drive. I also would wait a couple of months and get used to your car before spending loads of cash.
We had a Grand Cherokee on hols this year and I found it much less stable than my D3 though the hire car was a bit tired.
Wonder how close to production spec this one was

i guess you've heard of "Spyros suspensions"! These will definetely solve your problem
and you could definetely change lanes, even on 150km speed without even feel it......
give em a try and you'll be amazed!

The suspension should lower itself for just a bit when driving over 160km/h for some time to redure drag, IIRC.
It´s in the manual. Life in the slow lane

I tried it this morning at 3:30 am. I went above the 160 km/hr and looking at my 4x4 display I didn't see anything. TBH I even think the front was higher then normal. I continued for a few km but I didn't see it lowering and also not coming back up below the 120 km/hr.
Is this a feature after a curtain date? mine is from 2005. Roel
