Suspension seems to be hardening up..

I have noticed that over the last few thousand mile the ride seems to be getter a little harder. Its one of those things that gradually changes and you dont really notice. But now I think about it the suspension is definatly producing a harder ride than it used to.

Any Ideas ??

I also have some clunking from the front suspension, but only when off-road or over pot holes. thought it could be anti roll bar bushes etc. Ive thought for months that it was the shackle on the front recovery eye Rolling Eyes , but its not Crying or Very sad

Thanks
 Duncan

Have you checked the dampers in the rear are swinging freely, my ride was similar after one of the clips on the rear towing electrics broke and the cable was obstructing the weight from swinging as designed Question

Thumbs Up

I'm on about 83,000 miles, so not too bad. I had the same sort of noise on my E-Class merc and that had only done 30k. was the anti roll bar.

Perhaps related to colder weather? I was thinking the same thing a few weeks ago, and it was a couple of degrees centigrade below freezing.

Could be the shock absorbers loosing their taughtness. Especially if been off roaded. Could also be the oil in the shock absorbers getting thicker due to the cold. Not sure if thats possible?

I've been thinking the ride on mine has been "harsher" for the last 5-6k miles (now on 65k), crashing and banging over potholes, etc. dampers are swinging freely on mine, so not that.

Certainly not the silky smooth ride it once was.

In the good ol' days, you would do the bounce test, but I think shocker technology has gone way beyond just controling a rebound, so I honestly don't know. Chris Tyler replaced his with some trick ones, maybe pm him to see if he noticed a difference. I doubt you will convince a dealer to be honest.

Yep, I've been thinking mines a bit jittery over potholes etc for about the last week - certainly not the magic carpet ride that it once was. Feels almost as if its running at access height at times Confused

Had a near new loaner on Friday - much smoother.

I had a rummage around to check the danglies were swinging freely, and it's not that.
Worn tyres play havoc with handling / ride / noise, but mine are only about half worn.

Will ask service mgr about it next week.

Sounds like you fellas need your ARB bushes renewed.Had the jittery/nervous steering over rough surfaces and that cured it.

Has anyone priced out replacement of all bushes and ball joints? Might be good to know the total cost of renewing the D3 to brand new driving status.
