suspension slow at front

My 2006 LR3 won't ever go into access hight. It drops down, then displays a message saying "in extended mode" and then lifts up again

The rear raises and lowers pretty quickly but the front is a lot slower

I've removed, cleaned and refit the contacts for the height sensor at the front and that hasn't made any difference

I can't see any suspension errors on the IID tool

any suggestions on what to look for before I bend over and take it to a dealership?

thanks

Clean out the front value block behind the bumper.

If that don’t help it may need calibration

You have an iid so that can be used to calibrate it

I have exactly the same problem as you. Very slow to raise and lower at the front and when dropping to access mode, it takes too long and hence the car thinks it's bottomed out and goes into extended mode.

In order to attempt to fix the problem, I refurbed the compressor first with one of the eBay kits but it made a hell of a racket afterwards so I bought and installed a brand new compressor (Dunlop). Today, I cleaned out and installed new seals in the front valve back and I still have the problem. Big Cry

It could also be the height sensors, but on mine, they all look good according to the 4x4 screen.

Sometimes I can get it to go into access if the car is moving slowly and I press the button again just before it thinks it has bottomed out. Does this work for you?

I'm not sure if the above helps at all, but it may give you few things to try? I hope someone else may be able to help as it seems like we are likely seeking the same solution....

Did you replace lower front wish bones, if so maybe the height was not measured before tightening bolts

I replaced my front lower arms myself and made sure to torque the bolts up when the suspension was loaded with the correct height between the hub and the arch. The problem however, was there before and after the replacement arms were fitted.

Check normal ride height all round, all height positions are taken from this, if it is low when you select access it thinks it has bottomed out and immediately goes to extended setting.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I've ran the calibration routine a few times using the IID tool and it has made no difference Sad

The only other think is the exhaust valve blocked or restricted not allowing air to escape quickly enough. I believe this is part of the compressor.

I guess if it tries to put the air back into the tank (for later height increase) (as it would with a leaky compressor) it may take more time than expected to move it into the tank.

I've replaced the complete compressor Pete. It's a really odd problem. Confused

Hi

Hope u don’t mind me putting my two peneth in Laughing

Did u get the 4 x wheel alignment done after u replaced the front lower arms

Also with the system running have u bubble tested the joints at the front valve block / reservoir valve block , / compressor etc to ensure there no leaks anywhere

Have u checked out the live data via ur iid , to see what the pressure is along with watching the live data for the valve blocks

Yes, 4 wheel alignment was done after replacing the arms with the car being in tight tolerance mode. The problem was present before and after the arms were replaced though.

I haven't done a leak check actually. My assumption was that a leak wouldn't cause the car to drop too slowly would it?

I have checked the live data with the IID, but I haven't got a clue what is normal or not Laughing Maybe I should record a video and post it up.

Hi

Thks, Have enclosed a sheet to show u what the pressures should be

Urs is a D3 isn’t it , onky resson I ask is can’t see it on ur profile

May i ask plse, did u also measure the heights from the centre of the wheels to bottom of wheel arches in normal height

If there is a leak in the front valve block indeed it would drop , just use some washing up liquid mixed with water , use an old spray bottle

Another test is to put the suspension if u can into off road height , then pull fuse F26 which is in the engines fuse box, leave over night and see if anything has dropped

With live data , as the compressor starts ur see the pressure , can also see if the reservoir valve opens

See if I can find some screen shots for u , plus know it takes while to go through the suspension step by step and not missing anything as u progress, also having the iid is a godsend

Iid , under suspension live data u will have the following list

Indeed if u also take some screenshots we can all see what readings you’ve got
