SWR
If I ground my mount I get a higher SWR then if I remove the ground
It's a mirror mounted bolted onto the cross bars, I ran a ground from it to the chassis. Checked it was ground with a meter and it was. If I remove the ground the SWR gets better!
Whats that all about?

I think you need to check your antenna co-ax and your CB grounding sounds like a bad connection somewhere and your CB is achieving a better ground from the mount through the co-ax"Never keep up with the Joneses. Drag'em down to your level. It's cheaper".
The 'grounding' of the antenna is nothing to do with the electrical grounding to the -ve earth of the vehicle.........
If you google 'ground plane' you might get an idea, or you could just take my word for it - not that I know anything about these things........ The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

Ohhhh, so trying to 'ground' my mount to the chassis is a waste of time then. I was getting confused between ground plane & earth.
If I touch my SWR meter when I'm testing the SWR goes down, so I just make sure I keep my hands away from it. Is that because when I touch it I am becoming part of the circuit or something? Is that to be expected?
