seems it's not the only mindless destruction of the day ...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-66950604

BBC wrote:
The owner of a Grade II listed restaurant has spoken of her shock after a stolen digger was repeatedly rammed into the building.

Police said the Mucky Duck in Drakeholes, Nottinghamshire, was targeted at about 23:50 BST on Wednesday.

The telehandler vehicle drove at the restaurant at speed before reversing and hitting it again multiple times.

Owner Harriot Bolland estimates damages will cost about £200,000 to repair.

The heavy-duty construction vehicle, which police said was stolen from Town Street in nearby Clayworth, trampled over a pub bench before striking the 18th Century building.

Footage shows the digger hitting the restaurant six times in four different places, leaving a gaping hole in the building.

Whilst my gut reaction is similar to this, I find it interesting that no one has mentioned the girl stabbed to death by a boy on Wednesday on a bus.

Funny how we've become somewhat immune to the human tragedies these days.

(This isn't aimed at ronp - just a general observation Thumbs Up )

Looking at the cut top of the stump the scroat had at least some idea of how to use a chainsaw. Should make it easier to identify him, although skulking around with a chainsaw might help the police with their evidence.

You are of course right RRSTDV8, sobering to think she is the 17th to die of knife crime in London this year.

This act of vandalism required some initial thought, planning and a reasonable amount of effort.

Does anyone know what the motive was behind it?

It was unintentional !

The lad was simply walking home with his chainsaw in the middle of the night (as you do), got slightly lost and ended up following the line of a big wall.
At the Sycamore Gap he stumbled on a root, his chainsaw accidentally fired up with the resultant vibration causing him to lose balance, he fell against the tree for support, but unfortunately his chainsaw ripped through & felled it.
And as a footnote: he stubbed his big toe and is now going to sue the National Trust on health & safety grounds

Well that (or something similar) will no doubt be his alibi. Rolling Eyes

Whether it's mindless vandilism or acts of violence against another person/animal etc., the greenies will cite 'social deficiences', whereas in my book it's a failure of parenting.

What happened to common decency and values, which are part of a good upbringing and parenting.

If parents think it's acceptable for 'kids' to be out all hours with guns/knives and in this case a chain saw, then maybe they aren't fit to be parents.

As for the stabbing of that poor girl on her way to school, name and shame him, don't protect his parents from sharing the blame, life should mean life, no chance of parole, no only doing half the sentence, and definately no prison segregation.

If all the kiddy fiddlers, murderers, rapists and pervs knew they could end up in with those that have nothing to lose, but do have certain morale standards, maybe the thought of what might happen to them might just reign in their intentions.

And to ignite more feelings, I'd bring back the death penalty for murder where there is non contestable proof of evidence of guilt. The bar would have to be set high, higher than before, but it should be available for the scum that think it's acceptable to take a life.

I wonder if they used a chainsaw on this?

^^ What? How is that relevant to the vandalism of a landmark?

It's suggesting Trailered Movements is a 'Gammon' - a term that should be considered as offensive as any other names for members of groups having similar characteristics but isn't because it used against right-of-centre people who are fair game because they don't agree with the middle-class mob. Right-of-centre people generally don't participate in the Offence Olympics and shrug it off, whilst left-of-centre people do advocate free speech - as long as they agree with it.

The sycamore will grow back. It'll take time and management but it will genetically identical. They are bl**dy immortal and fast-growing. I hate them because the seeds and saplings are poisonous to horses and sheep and I have collect them by hand. Evil or Very Mad

A few have mentioned the disproportionate media/social media coverage between a felled tree and the sad death of a 16YO girl due to a stabbing - murdering people with a knife if far more common than felling a landmark tree.

A very sad reflection of the times we live in.

There are similarities though - both perpetrators are the result of bad parenting.

"Modern London doing as modern London does".

In the 1980s or before, a death by machete would have been major news for weeks. Big knives and machetes seem to be as common as penknives used to be and the threshold for using them very low.

My tenth birthday present was a sheath-knife. I and many of my friends walked about with them on our belts (out of school) but knew that if we used them inappropriately there would be very serious consequences.

The YT videos on this event have mostly elected to disallow comments; those that do have endless comments about guessing the ethnicity of the perpetrator.

And elsewhere, a lad who told mates and emergency services he was taking a knife into school to stab a teacher did exactly that and got 14 months. The tree murderer will probably get a forestry apprenticeship.
