With the exception of Alice at the serivce desk I wouldnt give the rest of them the time of day in that place. A truely woeful experience dealing with them, but what's the option?. There are 10 types of people in this world ~ those that understand binary and those that don't.

What makes a dealer bad, not acceptable or worse than others ?
Is it "the not 100%" of those that work there that if not checked or controlled by some senior figure isn't as it it should be ?
or
the effect of some senior person not doing his job & controlling things ( like a puppeteer) sub standard work results...
Maybe some of both....
Personally I would never depend on the discussion with the service receptionist.....what the bloody hell does she / he know when he / she has just been told what to say....you have to speak to the organ grinder...
I have had my issues with a local dealer here where I live that sadly now lacks its principal service guy...it's a shambles.....& customers suffer because of it.
I recently had to do the LR customer satisfaction questionnaire (.....after the tow ball thing) I opted to say please phone me as I wanted to talk to a person as opposed to ticking a box (that makes some statistic somewhere) I haven't been called back.
Perhaps our LandRover person on here can see a trend that dealers who represent them aren't doing thier job, being unprofessional, being incompetent, aren't being tacked as they should be.
Bad dealers with less than the best product support spell disaster to a marque, brand & product....
That's why indies are now being the place of choice to sort problems & it's not just because of cost.... BREXIT - done properly.

Couldn't agree more. I have to say that after my encounter with taggarts sales, I drove several hundred miles to Lincoln to get the right car, the buying experience was the polar opposite of what I had encountered in Glasgow, Which is why when I get a d4 or its replacement I would be more than willing to travel that distance again. Fact is, even if a good car at a fair price came up in taggarts, I would not give them my custom. 3 Flash Indicators

here West Yorks...back to Charles Hurst's in Belfast
by choice to speak to people I can trust
It shouldn't have to be that way...
the opening post of this thread is alarming...
I moved from BMW & a specific group of dealers in Belfast when they did the same to me...
I lost it big time & got a solicitors letter ASBO that stated I could NEVER go into any there dealer outlets again.......what I revealed was a good product very badly represented & supported.
I won damages from this...representing myself - I have the ASBO framed BREXIT - done properly.

As most of you know, I started out in an LR main dealer, over 10 years ago
Even back then, the cars sold themselves. Salesmen were only there as a point of contact, and to sign the paperwork
Since then, there has been a huge surge in sales, and this point is even more relevant.
Dealers don't have to discount the cars, or give freebies to sweeten the deal. If you don't buy it, someone else will.
I expect it's this attitude that puts a lot of people off. That, and paying a premium to pay for the posh showroom, and free tea/coffee
However, when it comes to poor repairs/workmanship, I believe this is probably down to warranty repair times, as well as workshop scheduling. Typically, a dealer will book in 10-15% more work than the workshop can cope with.
With a warranty repair, they are only paid a certain amount of time from JLR to diagnose and repair a fault, be it mechanical, electrical or body related.
Due to this scheduling, if extra faults are found, they are generally not dealt with, and in some cases, not even reported to the customer... My D3 Build Thread

The free health checks are genuinely free, in the hope they can extract a £'000's from it

I used to work at a truck main dealer, warranty would pay for repair only and very limited diagnostic time ie 1 hour, so if you had some obscure wiring fault ( not that D3/4 suffer from them ) you were stuffed before you started.
Plus if the l/r mechs are paid on job times they are going to cut corners, this always happens when you pay mech any sort of bonus.
I was the most efficient guy by a long way I didnt cut corners I just didnt stand and chat for ages I just worked and worked, and I also bought the tools to do the job fast and easy, Daf XF clutch in an out the door 1.5 hours, not a one off but time after time, the rest of them 3/4 hours minimum which is the book time, hence the reason I earnt a lot more than the rest of them, basically I got 6 days pay for 5 days work and to be fair it was a doddle, but then it always is if you are good at your job.

My BM 5 series had had a an ongoing fault with the auto box that wasn't found...they lied & tried to trick me into fitting a complete new box.....a 3200 pound plus labour con trick
...in fact there was a known fault with the ZF gearbox sensor that caused the fault in many others
....then they serviced the car (which should have been 300 to 400 pounds)
....the end bill was just short of 1900 pounds....
....they couldn't explain satisfactorily to me what they had done all this work to a relatively young car..
without my go ahead......to me not on.
...then they said they had "fixed" the Auto box issue...by changing the oil...actually the oil had been swapped out the service before....but had it...I'd paid for it..but it wasn't done...this is where I saw red & started asking questions..
The service manager made the mistake of saying "customers usually just paid the bill & didn't ask questions"...why was I being so particular ?
The dealer principle came (oozed) over....I then realised it was this guy who dint answer phone calls or letters....met face to face..he realised that I had made some valid points about expertise, workmanship & charging.....what a
I then got phone call from SWMBO'd about being late home....in a private mobile phone call I said what had experienced & the people I was battling with about the 1900 pound bill...I was overheard saying what I thought about the whole thing including my thoughts month dealer principle that included lack of parentage & perceived religion.
It was this sentence that earned me the ASBO..
....the bill was analysed by me & was found to be 680 pounds...duplications & errors made it what it was...things not needed or actually done.
I eventually paid
I then took them to task about breach of contract on a car (a Z3) that I had on order...this is where I got four figure (just short of five) compensation.
BMW....Never, never never again
That chain of dealers ...well I'm banned....
Land Drover ownership has been very straightforwards after this BREXIT - done properly.

I've bought plenty of parts from them.
Always got a decent discount and good service.
Haven't used the workshop bar the tow bar check, which they did fine. They didn't wash my car afterwords. Maybe I should be glad for that!
Edit to add.
Their Motherwell branch are a shower of !
My first Landy was a 04 freeby td4 SE H/B. A decent car for a 21 year old, was just a over 4 years old and was immaculate.
It got written off in a 5 car pile up that closed off part of the Raith interchange and made all the central Scotland travel news. Having your rear view mirror fill with a lorries white cab knowing it's going to hit, and hurt, is not a nice experience.
Got my payout and went to Motherwell hoping to get a replacement car.
Salesmans first words when I said I needed a new car after mine was written off was "haha, nae luck"
That was 2009. To this day I refuse to have anything to do with them even though they are only 4 miles from my house. Maryhill is 13 miles and I travel there for parts. In loving memory of FA54WSK.
Rest well old friend, your work is done.

The response I got from a Maryhill salesman when he phoned me to chase up a quote was "well f**k off then" after I told him I was purchasing my wifes new Evoque from Shields Glasgow.
The dealer principal really couldn't give a damn, and hid the spineless little *** away from me when I went down to confront them, but Lookers were none too impressed after I wrote to them on the matter!!
