Tailgate Actuator Instructions |
|
My tailgate would not open earlier.
Pressed the unlock / lock buttons inside and held for 5 secs and it popped open.
But it now won’t close
It looks like the latch on the bottom tailgate is gone.
Any have any instructions on how to fit the new latch
Thanks in advance

Hi,
try searching "Upper tailgate latch" and you should get a number of results to have a read through,
Disco Mikey's has many pics to look at

It's an easy fix.Less than an hour once you've got it open. You can get the actuator from Advanced Factors. I ordered one yesterday.
Have a look on You Tube for 'How to'. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)
Sold Volvo XC90 R-Design (known as Basil)
Sold - D4 HSE (Known as Gerty)
No longer the Old Buses original owner

Fitted the actuator, only took 40 minutes, thanks to the useful instructions on here.
The exisiting cable looked fine.
But top tailgate still won't open, so will try a new switch now. Hopefully that is the issue.

Hi,
came back to ask are you talking about the Latch or the Actuator ?
I have just had an issue with my upper tailgate release switch and if the buttons on the dash work for you then its probably Not the actuator, mine was the switch a corroded wire, had help from peeps here to confirm.
Another search for you switch you can replace without removing handle but it might be the wiring loom so a new switch will Not sort that handle off to confirm

I replaced the actuator
The 2 buttons on the dash work and i can hear the release, but it just opens a tiny but and seems jammed.
Also my keyfob 3rd button is programmed to open the tailgate.
The problem is I cannot close the tailgate fully, its still open.
It maybe the top tailgate braxket needs adjusting because of the new actuator.
But cannot open the top part at all now.
Ill try a switch tomorrow

Hi,
yes the 2 buttons on the dash only un-latch it you have to have someone at the tailgate to open it as it releases
or
do it once so its unlatched then lift the tailgate and wedge something under the lip and 2 buttons again so its then free
if you have programmed the key, lift the tailgate when you press that button.
dont think the actuator alters anything with how the tailgate goes into the latch.
you can remove the switch from the handle and take the rubber cover off to see if the paddle inside moves freely and check if the micro switch works, after that you might be best checking with a meter,
point of no return is cut the micro switch off and touch wires together and actuator should operate,
if you have a multi meter check volts her before soldering in a new switch
edit. regarding latch Dont use the top tailgate to do this just a pry bar/device/screwdriver close the lower latch and operate the release to see if thats working ok ?
