Mine didn’t snap, but the pulley wheel arrangement behind the trim came off. Just needed to pull off the tailgate seal then pull the side panel off and fit a new nut.

Poppy (The 14 week Belgium Malinois) didn’t not chew it.
It kinked when closing a while ago and has gradually worn.
