Tailgate Handle. Captive nuts!

Hi Gents,

My reversing camera has failed and to replace I need ro remove the rear handle light assembly from the tailgate itself. I have done this before with issues as I had to drill one bolt as the captive nut was just spinning.

This time pretty much all of them are spining so will need drilling. What have other people then replaced the captive nuts with does someone has a part number?

Thanks

I, too, had to do this. The real intention was to add a ladder.. Whistle

As success wasn’t assured before starting, I had acquired new nuts in advance. Mine were for D3 but it’s pretty much the same handle design and nuts for D4. The links under are for the D4 part codes.

The two of the copper receptacles we just glued back to their places on the plastic handle with glue (two component epoxy) for both metal and plastic. Been fine since.

After getting some new screws I inserted some of these, https://www.screwfix.com/p/insert-nuts-typ...lsrc=aw.ds with Araldite. They have worked very well and with using copper grease should last well.

I had a similar issue with spinning screws. I just levered the spinning screws out and the brass threaded insert came out too. Then I freed off the insert and glued it back into the plastic nut holder.

Finally got around to doing this today.

I drilled the heads of the Nutts that would not move.

I then used these captive nutts. Which I used a araldite to help hold in place. The below where a little to long to be honest be cut them down.

I have now fixed reversing camera and changed boot switch.
