Taking D3 to SA from UK .... |
|
Hi all,
I am currently in the UK but am due to move back to Joeys in Jan or Feb next year.
I am looking to ship out my '06 D3 HSE and want to know if anyone else has done this?? I have a few questions if anyone knows:
Are any mods required before moving the disco out?
I am due the big 7 year service next year which is about £1000 here, is it cheaper over there?
Any per gotcha's I should know about?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers,
Stuart

Hi just from shopping and looking at prices in the UK it is probably a better bet to have the Big 7 done in the UK as you have more access to independent workshops there that have experience in the cambelt changes etc. Disco _Mikey has done a few cambelts perhaps he can give you some advice on that. I would also have the Bell Auto Sevices blanking kit done as well as remove the CAT as the Fuels in SA are not of the best quality. I also like a lot of people add mineral 2 stroke oil to every tank of fuel as it helps to assist cleaner burning of fuel as well as remove carbon deposits. I add 300ml - 400ml of SASOL 2 stroke oil. Hope this helps a bit i am sure more posts will show up. Also service every 7000- 10 000km intervals.
Regards

Do you own a diesel TDV6, V6 petrol or V8 petrol? Petrol price in October was R11.87 at the coast and Inland R12.20. Diesel price is in the region of R11.55 i think. Yes LR still make the V8 Petrol as well as the V6 petrol in SA. The V8 is the more reliable of the series as the TDV6 suffer from engine failures depending on if they where serviced every 24000km or 12000km. If they where serviced every 12000km you stand less chance of a engine failure. Land Rover do not supply parts for the bottom end of the engine they will only supply you a complete bottom end and the price of that is i think R47 000 not including gasket sets ti fit heads etc and also not including Labor.
The V8 is a reliable vehicle but you still pay the price for fuel as it is not cheap to run and i can imagine the V6 petrol as well. If you contact Peter from Landyworx (+27117810020) he is in JHB and has experience with these vehicles perhaps he can give more solid advise.

It may be cheaper to sell your current car, than pay shipping and duties on import
You will need to apply for a special permit to import the Vehicle.
Here is a starting point
http://www.services.gov.za/services/conten...icle/en_ZA
Local prices for a good condition D3's start at about GBP 14000, a new D4 HSE (Petrol or Diesel) will set you back GBP 57000

As far as I know there is NO V6 Petrol LR4 available, so not sure where this comes from? V6 petrols only sold here in 2005/2006 and were then discontinued. Only V8's still sold here. There are also really good Indies around in SA now, especially LandyWorx in Randburg who know D3 really well.
