Taking the LR3 through the Car Wash ?

With the air intake being located on the side of the vehicle, it seems like it wouldn't be a good idea to run the LR3 through a car wash. What have others done? Is it ok to do this? I worry that the high pressure water from the car wash would be forced into the intake. Any comments appreciated. Thanks[/code]

Don't worry, its perfectly ok. There is a long perforated pipe to the airbox, then a large sump trap in the airbox before any water can get near to the engine. You could blast a hose in there and it would be fine.

Hmmm, there isn't a pipe on all D3s, just a channel between the inner and outer wings and it should be noted that the manual does say don't spray water directly into the intake

If the engine wasn't running, there wouldn't be an issue, i'd be wary of carwashes & hosepipes with the engine turned on

I have been taking my LR3 though the power nozzle touchless carwash at least every week for the past year and 3 months and have had no issues so far. The wash I take it through has quite alot of water pressure coming out of those hoses! My D3 likes to be clean during the week, the weekend is another matter. Twisted Evil BTW - I wash it when in off-road height.

Although I do a lot of 4x4ing and the paint gets a hard time, I would never take my car through a standard car wash.

Carwashes here are designed with the SUV and Trucks in mind. Smile The one I use has a clearance height of 6Ft 9Inches. This one even cleans the wheels with automatic brushes! Very Happy Very Nice!

Paint finish stands up to drive through Car Washes?

A fellow I do business with claims that the drive through car washes use too strong of a soap and I should not use them on my 2006 LR3. How are your finishes holding up, say the 2004 or 2005 LR3s tha may have been run through these type car washes a lot of times over the last few years.
The fellow also said he would put a protective coat of stuff on my paint for only $75.00; I might do this unless for some reason this is not a good idea.
Also, looking for a good shop to add goodies to my new vehicle in the San Francisco area, especially a shop anywhere from say Benicia to Livermore, or Oakland,,,that general area. Any input from anyone?

I like it a lot. A lot more comfortable for my wife than the Discovery 1 we had years ago.
By the way, I have posted in a number of forums here about my search for a way to make my passenger mirror a power folding one, since my garage is so narrow. I emailed a UK dealer a week ago and still no answer. They are power in the UK and some other countries around the world. I have had an indication that the wiring harness is the same for our USA models so I think I just need the actual mirror unit.

Hi All,
Paintwork, paintwork, paintwork & paintwork. The No 1,2,3 & 4. Reason I don't do automatic carwashing. Their brushes are full of Censored from the previous cars and can be very harsh at the cleanest. I only use Auto-Glym products and my own lambs-skin mitt at a go around yourself carwash. I hope in 5-10 years my time, effort and money (each product over $35 Australian [ 24p U.K. or U.S.$1.20]) will pay off with still gleaming paintwork. Very Happy
Cheers & Regards,
David.

I have not seen any paint issues so far, but then I like to place peanuts on my hood for the Seagulls to eat! Shocked
