Tapping into the aux input - SE model |
|
I know I've read this somewhere... but I can't find it now.
In a roundabout way, I've wired a sound source to directly into the centre console aux input (I've actually done it by tapping into the ipod connector wires, but electrically it's the same as described by cfb in Topic #2972).
The input will only work when the switch on the ipod aux input block is set correctly (fine) and when there's a blank 3.5mm jack plugged into the aux port on the back of the centre console (a bit of a pain). I'd like to do away with the pointless plug, but I'm not sure what plugging something in there does electrically. As far as I know, it only has three wires, left right and common ground, so what does plugging the plug in actually do? Connect the common ground to the car's ground? Put a large resistance across the R or L to the common earth?
