Tapping Sound (not the usual one) |
|
Seem to be getting an intermittent tapping sound from what sounds like behind the front grille. thinking it may be a compressor (prob air con). Can only be described as hitting the side of a baked bean can with a spoon, almost hollow sound. Not always there and have tried switching off the HVAC whilst its occurring but not conclusive yet.
Anyone any similar experience?
(its not the usual hydraulic tappet sound that I had with the D3) D4 HSE Lux MY16 Club Waitomo

you can easy hear it when cleaning AC since cleaning process requires coldest setting and fastest fan speed the heat exchange is massive hence metal expands a lot and you can hear that knocking noise for a while
do you cool yous cabin with AC before ventilating the car by opening windows for a few minutes?

How regular is the noise, as in once a second or once every few seconds?

It works so I have left it for now. I’ll worry when it causes an issue. Just had a week in the new forest in the heat and all was well so not concerned.

Thanks for the replies,
Yes its pretty much the same noise as the video and sometimes it does it and sometimes not.
So not the compressor then but the viscous fan clutch?
Easy fix? Expensive Part?
Can’t hear the crank failing with this noise going on D4 HSE Lux MY16 Club Waitomo

Had the same on mine. Turned out to be a frayed auxiliary belt. The stray strand was hitting against various components on the way round. New belt cured it Previous Discos

Fan Clutch...Very common and mine has been doing it for about 4 years.... Okes at Landy locally say not worth the fix as they have not seen one fail yet.....and we live in a very hot tropical climate. Noise will only be present at idle.
