Been there too and came out thinking exactly the same, had my kids and my parents with me I think they were both even more bemused
Also took kids to Tate in London, some of it was great but other stuff was beyond us. There was one particular piece with three blank sheets of paper on the wall, my daughters comment was "if I tried handing in a blank bit of paper for my Art homework I would get detention"MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

Went to the Guggenheim in Bibao a couple of years back. Awesome building, amazing for me.
Inside however.......
Started with the full height 'foyer' area. What can best be described as stockings-filled-with-sand (but about 20-30 foot long and about 6-7 foot wide) hung from the roof. Small wooden pallets on castors dotted around so you could lay down and look up at them.......
Next a room that as you entered you chose one of thousands of pieces of string/wool and just followed it around an empty room.......
Another room was a furnished space but everything was plain white; walls, chairs, tables, furniture, pictures, everything. A step ladder was at the side and attached to the ceiling was a mirror fixed at an angle. You climbed the ladder to look at the room in the reflection (the point being we don't all see the same thing the, er, same.....)
It got weirder....... Yoko Ono had a whole floor to herself. Of the dozens of displays the most memorable ( ) were two shelves about 20 foot long, one above the other. On them were about 20-30 identical 'jam jars', half filled with water and a label with the name of a globally famous icon. Point was we are all mostly water and the 'same.....
But the absolute weirdest was a film on loop. Black and white grainy movie depicting a naked and very hirsute young Asian woman laying on a bed in a crucifix shape in a bare room. Watched it for a while and 'nothing happening'. After a while a large fly appears and settles on the woman, walks about her a bit, flies around and settles again. A few more minutes another fly, same again. We walked off at this point......
On returning past the same screen about 5-10 minutes later there were now a couple of dozen flies grouped in her armpits and lady garden. WTF was that all about
Art definitely divides........
