TDV6 Thrust Washer Fix

For the 2.7 Lion Diesel, here's a fix for when the bottom thrust washers fall out, and as we all know, no parts are available!!!

Use Toyota Land Cruiser (2H diesel engine) thrust washers, AE part number W2211, thickness: 2.980mm.

Machine out cap, 1.2mm, as in photo, below:

This gives clearance of .125mm. Drill holes through thrust washer into cap. Countersink thrust washers. Thread holes in cap, lock with 3mm brass screws:

That's it, hope it works for you.

The screw isn't likely to come out since you use Loctite. Have been using this fix on other vehicles for years and never had problems!!! Anyway, if the screw does come out, being brass, it will not do any damage to the crankshaft as it is a softer metal. Many engines use brass thrust washers as standard. Smile

Sorry, but beg to differ!
Any metal floating around in the sump IS going to do damage to your engine when it comes into contact with moving parts.

Also, I'd reckon if an engine is stripped down to such a degree, then it's worth getting a proper repair or preferably a new part.

This repair is not for me thank you.

If the parts not being supplied by LR as they only want half engines, then I can understand seeking alternatives for sure.

In reality, the con rod is likely to cover part of that area with the lip, so the screw would be worn down slowly rather than just being released into the engine oil.

You've obviously got some decent experience with engine re-building, so if you've used this method before, then OK.

I'd prefer not to, but when needs must Thumbs Up

I think you're all missing a trick here. What we need to know is:

What wheel/tyre combo is Etienne using?
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Well I made my comments on the assumption he'd be using 17" wheels Al, Not sure of the outcome if he was on 18's....

Thanks for the concern with this fix guys. If you've see the thrust washers in the cap, as they were manufactured/assembled, you'll see they dangle about! Time will tell, but I think I've got a better solution here than the original.
