I've not done the D3 headliner, but I once used spraymount on my old Saab 900 headliner in one of these temporary fixes that ends up being permanent. I made a couple of small holes, just big enough to get the nozzle through, gave it a good "skoosh" and pressed into position. Previously:
2010 FL2 TD4e GS
‘93 Defender 110 200TDi CSW - still got this, non-runner on SORN.
‘87 Defender 90 4 cyl Petrol
‘83 110 CSW V8 - best ever!
Range Rover 2-door V8 (not sure of year - 4-speed box and vacuum diff switch)
Series III SWB Diesel

There are many videos such as this one on YouTube:
One method I’ve heard about is to use a handheld steamer pressed up against the headliner. This melts the existing glue and you then use a small paint roller on the material to push it back onto the now melted glue.
Using new glue, if you eventually want to get the headlining replaced properly is not a good idea, for reasons explained in the above video.

Cheers all. Like the steamer method but might just use some staples as whole headlining coming out in the spring.. 👍

Normal 'fix' for sagging Jag headliner is using sewing twist pins. Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Anyone tried a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the underlying glue?

Normally what I see on other headliners (e.g Jag), is that there is a foam layer between the hardboard and thin material.
The foam stays stuck to the hardboard, but the material separates from the foam. Therefore I don't think reactivating the glue will work. Love to be proved wrong though.
You really need to use an electric drill and bristle wheel to remove all this old foam. Trying to apply glue over the top just leads to lumps and its poor surface to stick to.
In some cases I have seen the material shrink (vauxhall). And that is probably the reason for detachment. In this case you aren't going to end up with a neat job regluing.
It's the worst job ever.
In the UK I think staples will rust, so a couple is a good idea, but I wouldn't go mad

No, but I’ve heard of a steamer being used to do the same thing. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
