Temporary Solution for Transfer Box Leak |
|
Hello,
Hopefully this should be a quick one as i just need some reassurance my plan is sensible.
So on the last Service LR mentioned the Transfer box seal and output shaft seal were leaking but it wasn't major, but the warranty said they would sort it. YAY
But before LR can book it in for it to be fix we are on a month long road-trip through Germany and France. Now i am panicking that the transfer box is going to seize up halfway round Europe due to lack of oil.
So my idea is just open up fill plug, top up the oil (also gives a good idea of how bad the leak is depending on how much it needs) and then once we get home send it to LR to have the thing done properly. Since they say it ain't too bad once full it should last a month (fingers crossed). I mean there are no oil patches on the drive so i am guessing it ain't too bad.
Seems a waste to drain it completely and refill just for a month later LR to do the same again, so topping up was my quick win.
Thoughts??
Cheers
Nick

If you haven't got visible patches on the ground then it's not losing any significant quantity. You may even struggle to top it up. Just drive it but keep an eye out for it getting worse, then top up if necessary. Darren
