Terrible banging from front nearside on full lock |
|
Please forgive if I'm asking a well-known and obvious question here.
Had a new set of Wranglers fitted, and drove to Scotland and back (around 720 miles). Went really well. However, at the end of my journey back I noticed a terrible banging/dragging around the nearside front wheel when moving in full (or near full) lock - forwards or reverse. It seems worse when on left-hand lock, but also occurs on the other lock. It still seems to drive OK, but of course I'm now rather highly sensitive to anything.
Can anyone suggest (possibly from bitter personal experience) what this is likely to be?
Thanks all,

Might just be the bump stops need a dab of grease on them. Is it only as you get to near full lock or coming away from full lock? Sounds like a big TWANG! noise? Bodsys Brake Bible

Thanks for the amazingly fast responses, but it doesn't sound like my problem (although I suppose it might be - greater minds and all that).
- It's on level ground (no kerbs or bumps)
- It's quite a hard bump-bump-bump sound, and feels like it's dragging in some way (although nothing visible), and doesn't stop until I straighten the wheels
- A typical example would be when reversing on full lock (or near) out of a parking space. Also pulling out at a T-junction
- 48,000 mles, and never had anything like it before

Well - I've had the bump-stops greased and sadly it hasn't had any effect at all . The situation is unchanged, but thanks for the suggestion.
The independent garage it went to spent nearly 3 hours trying to find out what was wrong, but got no closer to the root of the problem. Other suggestions have been propshaft (could they mean half-shaft?) or transfer-gearbox (they appeared to forget that it has a front diff).
Next stop get my man to take it to a dealers for a L/R diagnosis...
Any other suggestions - PLEASE???
Thanks all

Mmmmmmm..... Don't know then....... No obvious signs of rubbing, could it be the CV joints on their way out? Bodsys Brake Bible
