I have been to James French today, A really good dealer in Standlake, Oxford.
He has offered me £28250 for my D3, In return I would purchase one of his D2s and take the difference.
The one I have in mind is this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Land-Rover-Discovery...dZViewItem at £6500. Does anybody have any advice, the car seems good and pretty fresh despite quite a few car park dings and 122,000miles. It had a new engine 18mths ago.
At what mileage do they start to become big trouble

They are ok, the radiators leak, the air suspension is not perfect, and bits do fall off, but the best thing about that car is the fact that it has no sunroofs! cos' they leak like nothing else

Cheers Gareth,
I will let it lie another day or so and take another drive in it with the missus this time. We will be looking at our local stuff tommorow and may pop in on the Land Rover Extravaganza gimmic rubbish at main dealers that is on this weekend.
I will be aiming for a lower mileage D2 I think, I will see what is about and probably end up spending a bit more, I am trying to be careful not to defeat the whole object of the exercise!Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:

If finances will permit, go for a post 2002 facelift D2 (with the more modern looking headlamps). From what I have heard, they had a lot of engine management issues ironed out. They also look a hell of a lot better The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

You are right there they are better looking and the price of a GS is not too bad either, There are plenty to choose from too. There are bound to be improvements on the facelift eh, I think my new route is still low spec but as recent as I can.Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:

Hi Dave,
Sorry to hear you are selling up and to be so near to me in Devizes.
I had a 99 'T' plate 300 TDI and allthough it was a van specially equipped
I found it to be a good vehicle once the wheels had been changed to the ones you can see in the piccies. The previous wheels (which I still own) where the horrible steel and very narrow ones.
I changed to the TD5 2004 ES Premium:

And enjoyed it for two years but had to get it sound proofed as the engine was very noisy. This it turned out is more to do with the vibration on the body panels. When the work was done it made a considerable difference. I see TH White have it for sale at less than they gave me £18,000!
I also had it chipped which transformed the vehicle and is very recommended.
I agree with other posts, if you can get the face lift version it is a more desirable car and if you go for a 7 seater it has the air suspension which was of great use on our trips to France and being loaded on the return with a one or two bottles of vino collapso!
If you do get the TD5 I think I still have the workshop manuals on disc, let me know if you need it and I will check it out.
Regards
Chris

Thanks all,
Facelift 03reg bought today. GS 7 seat with a lot of extras and manual which I prefer in the D2. 30,000 miles only too.
Good car in oslo blue with black cloth. I am chuffed to bits with it and pick it up next saturday.
Nice van Chris, and I looked at an ES but the miles were too much on it. If you do have the Td5 manual on disc it would be greatly appreciated mate.
The used Land Rover event turned out to work for me in the end, I used Yeovil Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:
