I must admit that my first thought was "what a waste". But then I thought it was funny that they were using a roller rather than a more thoughtful method of disposal and it seemed they were having fun doing it. Hence the post in the humour bit of the forum. Sometimes we need to see the funny side of stuff even if we know the serious side is important.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

only the hard drives should have been done and even then a secure wipe of each would have done the job - pointless showboating quite franklySteve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

thats 1069 chips that could have gone into peoples Land Rovers that are stuck in production 2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten
Those aren't PCs, they're ASIC miners - each is built to run a specific algorithm for mining a specific coin and only that - they can't be effectively repurposed in any meaningful way. They're not modular either, so you can't scavenge any components for re-use.
So yup, landfill/precious metals recovery and that's about it.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Cor, learn something new every day. Never heard of ASIC miners. A quick google and it appears these are power hungry beasties. The Antminer S19 Pro uses 3.25kW (https://www.bitmain.com/products/antminer/). That's ridiculous but I suppose is an indication of the work being done to "mine" the bitcoins. These units aren't cheap either: several grand a unit it seems.
It's amazing how much money is being spent trying to make some virtual money. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Over the last couple of months there has been a marked downturn in the volume of BTC mining, but the taps seem to be turning back on again this last week or so
Edit: Source https://www.blockchain.com/charts/hash-rate where you can find a lot more info on what/when/how much re. mining.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
