That'll be someone learning that actions have consequences...
Perhaps a bit harsh to lose ones job over, but then if it falls under the usual "bringing the company in to disrepute" contract term, then he's got no one to blame but himself. Having said that, if that's all the fallout from it, then he should be thankful. Whitty could have pressed for prosecution for common assault or battery.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I wouldn't say it was harsh at all.
Any business needs to be sure that its client-facing employees are representing the company in the best possible way at all times. If I was the manager of that estate agency, I definitely wouldn't want my customers meeting their agent for the first time and thinking "oh, you're that who assaulted Chris Whitty in the park, aren't you?". They're probably shrewd enough to have a clause in their contract of employment regarding actions outside of work which would affect the reputation of the company. Even if they don't, I believe it could be considered as a 'breach of mutual trust'.
The bottom line, as you say, is a realisation that there are consequences to one's actions. Commit assault on a public figure and post a video of it on the web, and you get what you deserve.
Or just not wanting to employ really, really, stupid people.

His mate decided to try and justify his actions by playing the 'autism' card.....
What does he expect , maybe if he had just asked polity for a selfy the professor would more than likely have obliged
As mentioned actions have consequences, particularly when he applies for another job and maybe someone recognises him from the video or if the police will be filing charges and ends up with a criminal record that he has to declare
Ant so clever now is he for his so called 1 minute of fame , got his just deserves, really hope this will teach him a lesson to respect others

I've walked home from having a few drinks in a worse state than that, many times - not once have I been tempted to grab a stranger round the neck and bellow at him while filming myself doing it. That's a -poor excuse.
As for the people on various social media outlets saying "well, at least he apologised" - did they actually read what he said? It was the most meaningless non-apology ever!

I've been more worse for wear than that too and not done such things. As I said, it's not an excuse. But it certainly doesn't help an idiot be less idiotic, does it?Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Isaac Asimov wrote a short story, "A Perfect Fit", in which a criminal was banned from accessing any electronic information. A lifetime ban from Instagram / YouTube / Facilebook, etc., would send a message.

Well, yes - a prerequisite to being dismissed, really. My point was that I very much doubt someone of his calibre figured on any headhunters' radar.
