Things to buy when getting a "new" d4

I've hopefully settled on a d4 to buy, and I'm starting a list of things I ought to buy. Would appreciate any thoughts/additions/deletions!

1. Spare wheel protector - already in hand through Ray.
2. Warranty - options seem limited, and opinions seem to vary on how worthwhile they are. I'm in discussions with WarrantyWise, for a policy which (it seems) covers the dreaded cranskshaft, but isn't entirely unaffordable.
3. Tow bar - will have occasional use for a bike rack - car I've seen is fitted with electrics, but no tow bar included. Should I go for a removable one, or a fixed one?
4. Security enhancements - have seen old group buys for diskloks, and also read things about OBD "blockers". And do people both with trackers?
5. Roof bars/box - will probably need one for when we go camping - any recommendations?
6. Anything else that anyone views as essential/desirable purchases to enhance or keep the scratters away from their pride and joy?

Thanks!

Good list...

what about...
Security plates for the headlights, anti theft device for the rear lights...

If you have a 13 pin socket having a battery charger connector can be useful (available in the shop on here)
RAI,
sump guard,
side steps/rock sliders,
winter wheels and tyres..
LED light bar... ?? Laughing

Thanks for the additions!

I've got the plates for the headlights on order, can you link to the device for the rear lights?

It's already got side steps, and I don't think I'll be doing much mad off roading, hopefully a bit of gentle laning. Winter wheels are interesting - I had a set for my D3, but I've nowhere to really store them now - I think the car would come with Pirelli Zeros, whcich if they've got plenty of tread I'll leave, but I'd look to replace with something an bit more all season/off road ish - maybe duratracs.

And thanks for the note about the tow bar - I'll give it some consideration

Hi,
save your money and just buy some "Lucky Heather" Whistle

95% of them are great cars and nothing really goes wrong just some maintenance to keep up with Thumbs Up

Regarding the tow bar the removable is a swan neck not flange fitting so depends what bike rack you have or plan on getting Question

Thumbs Up

Cheers all - noted about the rear lights, thank you!!

I guess the locking wheel nuts are no better than the ones that came on the D3 then Laughing

It's a cream interior, so will be getting a boot liner, as the missus wants a dog later in the year

Will have a look at OBD devices

A good set of all the LED interior and puddle lights. They make a world of difference.

My best purchases for mine would be:

IID Tool
The remote heating kit, if you don’t have it.

Thanks again - it's got timed climate, so I guess that means I don't need the remote heating??

Will look at an IID tool, not sure what I'd do with it, but they seem popular.

And thanks for the tip on the LEDs - any sets that people have a preference for? Any suppliers on here?

Where should I start...

I was fairly lucky although of course it was a conscious choice but I bought mine with the RAI and a-frame - two fairly expensive items that add loads to the overall look IMHO. It also came with the factory steps but these had rusted away and therefore came straight off. It also came with most of the underbody guards so it's only the rears left to fit. My list so far then, in some sort of order:

Service Schedule: whatever needs doing, I spent roughly the same as what i paid on this lot however I bought a D3 so lower cost and also got a lot of suspension components replaced as well as brakes all round, Cam belt etc, Bodsy fluid flush and a few other bits and pieces. Point here is that other than an aircon condenser (waiting in my garage) and a regas, everything is now up to date. Well okay, driver's heated seat doesn't work and i haven't swapped my battery over yet - currently reads 11.4 on the dash when IID fitted!

IID tool - not only essential, but good for live data on a spare android device mounted on a RAM somewhere

Remap - I got a Bell through Bodsy, simply great!

Towbar - I bought a TowTrust TL1 from this forum and am still enjoying extended discussions with my chassis inserts, cross threaded bolts, and harmonic dampeners. I have won the war however, I just have a couple of minor battles left to finish. Then add cycle carrier and tow step.

Rear Ladder - again from here, and a must if you have a small boy!

Headlamp guards - also found some repeater guards too for the complete look.

Stuff left to buy:

Roof Rack Plus lamps
upgrade the piddly poor lamps on my a frame
rock sliders
18" wheels
stereo although i have to retain the 4x4 info screen somehow
android based lift kit
bonnet cover
maybe some decals
remote Webasto

Is that it? course not! Radio (Ham or maybe CB), do i want to detango, few minor bits to tidy up, want a custom switch panel, other stuff I don't even know i need yet...there is just so much out there. Like I say, priority is to get on top of the service... Thumbs Up

This is concerning... do you know what you're getting in to?
