Well it all looks too clean
I've noticed that MrH, has splashed out on a LR Snorkel. (not a good move)
Shame really as when you look at the passenger side - there's another air intake vent - and besides the LR air air intake is not fully sealed against water - just take it apart and see your self.
its only the Safari Snorkel that has all the connections and fittings that are truely water tight. I know this as we have both a LR3 & LR4.
We have fitted both products - the standard LR product has a paper connecting tube that's not up to the job.
Thought I would point this out so owners are aware - before wading too deep.
Just one point with the Safari Snorkel - we had the water over the door mirrors ! - truely a great piece of kit.
Great pics, and a fantastic place to try out the car. I live not far down the road and was up on a course with Geraldine last year, it's an excellent place. Good fun and challenging enough to keep the interest even for those who have been else where before.
I for one will be signing up for the disco3 /4 event as soon as you can organise it... especially if as you’re an instructor there you can attain better discounts than me…

To start the L R Snorkel as you describe is not a Snorkel its a raised air intake.
Even so the LR one does a good job. I have had water over my mirrors If you were to fit a Safari Snorkel thats fully sealed, what about the vulnerable bit to the right of the radiator ? So regardless of how good you think the Safari is, the air intake pipework further into the engine bay is not sealed so whats the point going to all the trouble fitting the Safari ?

As Andrew suggests, the RAI is a good piece of additional 'cover your ass' in case you go a bit too deep for a moment or two.
Also, the rest of the engine electrics are vulnerable inside the engine bay, even if you have sealed the whole intake system. If water is up near the intake pipe (inside the engine bay), then its likely also sloshing around the nicely raised engine electrics and battery
After seeing footage of a certain red D3 practically diving under water on Strata Florida (Wales), LR has done a good job of protecting the insides, snorkel fitted or not

I always make sure my snorkel is watertight when wading in the D3

How is the D4 in collecting clay and mud in the intercooler - it is as successful as the D3 - ir have LR improved the design ?Duncan

I don't need to say any more on the subject of RAIs then
Sorry KK, but most of the guys who have replied on my behalf to your post know me and my past exploits in the D3 and previous Discovery fairly well, so they know I will have made an informed decision when getting the RAI instead of a Safari Snorkel.
The RAI has always been fine for what I've needed from the D3/4 - if I wanted to go into any deeper water/mud on a regular basis I:
a. probably wouldn't do it in a D4 or D3 - too many electronics to seal up first
b. would fit a full snorkel as well as breathers etc to what ever other LR I'd be using
c. wear a wet suit as the door seals on the old LRs are crap
As for the false Air in-take on the passenger sideof the TDV6 - that's only used by the V8's and the RAI manufactures actually have a design ready for the passenger side should LR want one
