It will cost you more to insure the x90 than you will get for the Disco, spend a bit of money on the Disco is my advice, but it depends how you evaluate a car, is it a means of getting from A to B or a status symbol?

Insurance premiums depend on so many things that it's impossible to say with any sort of certainty that "A" will cost more to insure than "B". The scenario for one person's situation will be completely different to someone else's.

At no point did the idea of the vehicle being any sort of 'status symbol' come up - it's a means of reliably getting from place to place (which may well be some considerable distance on occasions), in comfort and safety, with enough space to carry what I need to take with me, and without having to constantly think about which bit of it is going to fail and cost me money next. Sometimes the trip is for work reasons, so a lack of reliability would impact me financially. The most reliable cars I've ever owned have been two Volvos and two BMWs - the most unreliable have been my two Land Rovers. It's a no-brainer, really!

I sold my daughter's well spec'd and well looked after D3 SE with 165k on the clock in August via the Forum. Got £3200 for it, which is pretty well what it cost me in repairs this year. Big Cry

Still regret selling it. Sad

Loved my XC90. I went for the B5 diesel MHEV instead of the PHEV. I couldn't justify the extra cost of such a little return. Having said that, when my daughter's DS was in for a new cam chain with LR she got a XC90 PHEV courtesy car. Boy was it quick!
