Thinking of buying a D3 SE and want to know about discounts. |
|
I am thinking of buying a D3 2.7 V6 SE Auto and would like to know what I could expect to get as a discount from a LR dealer. What have been your experiences with dealers and discounts. I am hoping for a £3000 - £3500 discount, is this likely?
Thanks
David

I got £3800 discount on a new HSE recently. I explored many avenues and then went back to the local dealer with the best price I could find which was an internet broker. I let them try to match the price, which they finally got within a few hundred £s of it, so I then ordered. Matt

I got £3,600 off an HSE TDV6 with locking rear diff and tow pack. I just phones a couple of dealers then negotiated from there. Expecting the new arrival sometime next week

Got £6k off my SE by phoning around, not being too picky about colour but giving a strict budget and being very ready (insurance, money etc) to move. Best time is end of the month. 2008.5 D3 HSE, Stornoway, Ebony

A £6k, or even a bit more, saving on an HSE is certainly obtainable
I was very flexible about delivery times etc. though & had to wait until the end of the quarter before the deal was confirmed, then had to pay fairly sharpish. A little nerve racking, but I wanted a "mega" deal & was even prepared to wait for another quarter if I couldn't get what I wanted for the right price. Also wanted to use a L/R dealer & not an importer.
I don't know if HSE's are easier to get a discount on than SE's, maybe they are?

End of this month will be a quarter (and half year) end for dealers - grab them by the short and curlies when negotiating now! Discovery 3 tdv6 7 seat Buckingham Blue
Had it since new - sold Jun 17 after 12 years and 214,000 miles

I think it is easier to get big discounts on HSEs as there are few options on these and therefore any cars in the network can be swapped between dealers easier. This is how I got mine in just a week. I had to have the privacy glass option fitted at the dealer, which ended up being a better option as I got it much darker than the factory tints anyway. Matt

£6K off an HSE is very good, I think I am aiming too low for £3.5K off an SE. I will have to see what my local dealer is prepared to do but I'm thinking of £4K - £4.5K now.
My other option is to go for an S and add the leather pack and power fold mirrors (I don't really want the rest of the SE spec) and see what deal I can get on that.
Thanks for the info

I think you will find the seats in the SE are better. Plus extras never really add to a car's value, the money IMO would be better put to an SE. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

But an SE is £5K more than an S whereas the leather pack and power fold mirrors are only £1700.
The rest of the SE specI can do without;
Centre console cooler box
Front PDC
Roof rails
Convenience pack (can you believe LR want £325 for a cup holder, luggage net and some lights on the vanity mirrors)
EDIT - Forgot to add the SatNav which I don't need as I have a portable device already.
I think that if I go for the leather pack I will get the exact same seats as in the SE.

The cooler box is a complete was to space. I've still not found a water bottle that will fit in it. I've brought a pack of the most shortest/stubbiest bottles of water I can find, yet the still don't fit in the cooler box. It would of been much better if they just cooled the glove boxes instead - like they do on a Vivaro van. The cooler box is okay if you just drink cans of fizzy drink.
The front parking sensors are handy though. Much more handy than I thought they would be.
AutoExpress magazine are now saying that an S model will retain 62% of its value in 3 years, whereas an SE is 60% and HSE 57%. These are lower than there were a couple of months ago - maybe becuase they are now being discounted. The aim-to-pay price for an S is £30,008 which is about £2K less than list. Matt

I believe the dealers have a 10% margin and then some bonus if they hit target. Targets are 1/4 based so if they no the next car hits traget for them then they get an extra £xxx per car for the whole qtr. so sometimes that last car can be worth a lot.
10% is ex vat
eg.
Discovery 2.7 S V6 06 £27,052.77
Bonatti Grey Scintachrome £442.55
Sub-Total £27,495.32
10% Discount £2749.53
Sub-Total £24745.79
VAT (17.5%) £4330.51
Registration Fee £38.00
Road Fund License £215.00
Total on The Road Price £29,329.30
So full price should be £32,560.00 with 10% out its £29,329.30 so thats £3230
Don't expect to p/x a car and get a good price or even p/x at all. HSE will be able to be discounted more as the cost more and margin is %
You can also use current offers to your advantage such as deposit contributions on Freedom Finance and then settle the finance if you really are paying cash, thuis could net you an addition £700 after charges.
Hope this helps

The leather seats in a S are not the same as an SE or HSE so I'm told. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone
