Quite a few have driven one, I tried keeping up with BN driving it and believe me it was futile. If you want it done I reckon they are good and know what they are doing.

And to be fair, I was not going over 2500rpm which still left Pelyma as a dot in the rear view mirror. I was using the torque not the revs. I have a feeling though, that I could leave an auto with a manual in a similar way. The chipped car was responsive though.

If you have some serious safety software, the banner does not show as in my case. Kaney may not be able to see it like me.

Post subject: Thinking of getting Turbochip upgrade
Has anyone on the board had the chip put in, and what is it like regarding fuel etc

After some more research by way of asking around I have now had the upgrade work done by Turbochip. Their claimed BHP/torque increase is +50bhp and +120 lb/ft all without smoke.

The Turbochip solution is a software upgrade rather than bolt on/plug in box’s so that suited me. The work was done last Saturday, at my home. Since then have I done 750 miles on same as usual mixed roads with about 45% motorway and 20% A road.

So far I have noticed that the MPG is up by 3.5 to 27 but it's too soon to be certain if this is fully representative. I am not getting any smoke even with full throttle and load but more usefully for me, the performance difference is very significant. The car feels more “alert” without losing any driveability, the Turbo lag is greatly reduced but the Turbo does not seem to be spinning up unnecessarily. It will also easily stay with warm hatches away from the lights if that’s your thing. In short, so far, I am very pleased though obviously it is early days.

The closest to a performance test that I have been able to do is finding that my RRS will now out drag a friend’s Disco 3 V8 HSE albeit just. Nevertheless, just is a huge difference from the same exercise carried out before the upgrade and such that he was amazed and “won’t bother with a V8 again unless it’s a diesel”. I must however confess that this test would not have impressed Adam Towler of Autocar (or BN for that matter) for its science.

Incidentally, another point that I thought may be interesting was made while chatting with my Landrover dealer last week. The sales guy’s private view was that irrespective of chipping (I seem to have forgotten to mention my forthcoming modification) the ordinary 4.4 V8 makes no sense - of course he was talking about the RRS. Then with a chip upgrade the balance is massively waited towards the TDV6 apart from the V8’s cosmetic advantage of shiny exhaust tips, it’s engine note and of course the new friendship that will develop with the local petrol station.

Now I'm sorry if his view upsets some but there you have another opinion.

Glad you are happy with the TurboChip upgrade. Whenever I have driven a D3 that has been chipped by them I've been impressed.

As a matter of interest, how many miles has your RRS done before you had the upgrade?

Nice to see some visitors from the other site! When are you coming offroad? You'll really see how good your car is then, believe me it's better than the chip upgrade (although its pretty cool 8) )
