Does this tow bar look ok?
Just towed a fairly large trailer, around 2 ton and when I went to take the bar off it appeared to just drop out after rotating green nob, where normally I requires some force
I then reinserted the tow bar and it was a solid fit with no movement.
With all the stories you here and the fact I'm picking a new caravan up soon I'm a little worried.
What are your thoughts? It was 'checked' by LR and said to be ok, but this check only took around 2 minutes.
Should I grease it?
Thanks all!

looks ok to me. I just fitted the same to my D3 took a lot of rust cleaning from the channel on the car and some force to get it in and out. I guess you must have a clean channel!!When you are dead, you don't know that you are dead. It is difficult only for the others. It is the same when you are Stupid
Sjhdisco3, don't you have the red bung to put in when the bar is off? That stops all the crap getting in. I might have a spare if not.
Jack, I put a fine film off copper ease on my bar's outer edges but not too much and yes once the locks undo it drops out - in my experience its usually the locking mechanism that seizes if left in "too long" not the bar itself LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Hi no my D3 came without the red bung hence the amount of wire brushing needed. When you are dead, you don't know that you are dead. It is difficult only for the others. It is the same when you are Stupid
Drop me a pm withyour address and if I still have it I'll stick it in the post to you.LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Re: Does this tow bar look ok?
Was it loose before you rotated the green knob or still solid and it just dropped out when released?
That looks like the later design with the ratchet teeth on the red collar.
My first one was the version with the smaller green knob and the black hinged keys and with that, the only thing preventing the main pin from retracting (but not fully) was the main spring.
Sometimes towards the end of its life, after towing the green knob had rotated anti-clockwise, the pin had pushed back and the whole unit rattled around until pushed back up in to the chassis member again.
I think that with the later design with the ratchet teeth the unit should stay quite tight?
When I had my previous D4 checked which was OK, the dealer told me that the test was on the chassis member not the hook.
I demonstrated how without the key in, I could rotate the green knob (without pulling the knob out) to the point that the hook was nearly dropping out, that was the old design hook however.
They didn't seem to grasp the implications of this self rotation.2015 D4 HSE in Corris Grey
