Tick...tick...tick when the engine is idling

Hi,

D4, 2010, TDV6, 2.7L, 140kW, 170tkm, 6-gear manual.

...have a tick...tick...tick... when enginge is idling (no throttle).
If I give a only little throttle, I can't determine the noise.

Maybe a hydraulic tappets or an injector? I guess I have to use the Stetoskop... 8)

Is there a workshop manual for the 2.7 engine (replacement of the tappets and injectors)?

Regards,
Thomas

Maybe fan clutch.. at least on 5.0

I've had this usually on colder mornings, the ticking does not change in pace and is about once every second or so like a clock.

Turned out to be the viscous fan clutch on my 5.0, I'd check to see if your engine uses a similar clutch and if so that may be your culprit!

Best of luck!

Cheers.

When where the belts changed?- a worn belt including timing belt that is starting to delaminate can cause a ticking noise Big Cry
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Where the tensioners changed at the same time?- if not highly likely that is where the noise is coming from.

I would remove the viscous fan cover and check the cables are not rubbing on the fan.
