To activate the timed and remote pre heating on my 2012 D4 XS (rotary gear knob) this is what I did.

Timed preheating is just a matter of getting the function enabled in the Car Configuration File (CCF). I don't know how much LR would charge but I used my IIDTool. Once enabled, you will get these screens available via the "Extra Features" option on the home screen. Dead easy.

Remote preheating requires the fitting of a receiver, an aerial and purchase of a remote fob (and CCF enabling). I am told that the remote fob is good for up to 1000m from the car but I haven't tested it to that distance. I used off the shelf LR parts but I believe there is at least one forum sponsor who can supply and fit a non LR system which does not need an extra remote control fob as it utilises the existing buttons on the LR key.

Hopefully, the loom wiring for the receiver will be already in place in your car. If you open up the hatch where the jack etc is stowed, if the receiver is already fitted, you should see this

The chances are it will not be fitted but hopefully you will find, possible wrapped in some grey foam, a small black connector with three wires attached (small red circle in photo). Ignore the larger connector hanging loose (large red circle in photo). That is for the tyre pressure monitoring system I am told

The receiver is p/n LR036695 and cost me £140 (inc vat and member discount) from site sponsor Yeovil LR. The aerial is p/n LR008654 and costs £25. The fob from LR (LR027493) comes in at a ridiculous £82 but I picked up a couple from eBay; one for £20, the other for £35. If you buy on eBay, and the LR p/n isn't quoted, make sure it is a Telestart 91 (T91).

Fitting is easy. I stuck the aerial onto the window just behind the C pillar but I guess I could have removed the trim and hidden it completely. I fed the connector and cable down behind the side trim where I could reach it easily via the jack cubby-hole.

Connect the aerial to the receiver but don't connect the black connector yet unless you are ready to pair the fob to the receiver. This is done by connecting the connector and after approximately 2 seconds of connecting but within 6 seconds, press the OFF button on the transmitter for at least 1 second. Alternatively, if you have it all connected up, you can do it by pulling the fuel burning heater fuse in the engine bay for at least 5 seconds and then after refitting the fuse, after 2 seconds but within 6 seconds, press the OFF button on the transmitter for at least 1 second.

I was originally supplied the wrong part for the aerial so to get mine up and running I used a 4inch length of insulated multi strand wire. I pushed a needle into one end of the wire to create a hole up the centre of it and then gently pushed it into the centre pin of the receiver aerial socket. It worked fine to program the fobs but I guess range might have been a bit limited !

Once you have the aerial and the black connector fitted to the receiver, you can slide the receiver onto the metal bracket which should already be fitted to the car. The metal bracket looks like it has a locking tab on it but I didn't push the receiver that far on to the bracket in case it was difficult to remove.

If you haven't already enabled the timed heating in the car CCF this is how mine is set up

Full instructions for the T91 remote fob can be found here

http://www.webasto.com/fileadmin/webasto_f...rt-t91.pdf

Overall, this is a very easy modification but as I said earlier, there are other non LR solutions.

Hi Hugh - great write-up. With winter approaching I am now looking at adding this.

Quick question - do you know if a generic T91R receiver will work in the the D4 or does it need to be the " 8H52-18D540-AC" model that you show in your picture. I can find other T91R modules but not this specific one. Looks like I'll need to but the LR part LR036695

Sorry, can't answer that question. I guess the connector may be different if it's not a LR part.

Just about to fit my remote module etc.
Where do most place the ariel for the remote?
Does it need to be against the glass or can it stay in the right hand cubbyhole?

You could leave it loose if you wanted to, but anywhere around there will be more than sufficient. Thumbs Up

Good afternoon all!

I'm new to the forum and so ar have found it a great porch of information.

I am really interested in adding the remote heat to my 2016 discovery. I have the cable in the jack storage area so i understand all i need is the receiver, aerial and fob and to get the CCF file for the car updated.

Does anyone know if fitting this myself would affect the warranty at all? I km now how difficult dealers can be...

Also, does anyone know anyone in the Spalding, lincolnshire area that coild do the CCF file for me without costing 2 arms and 3 legs?

Also, can Yeovil LR still supply the parts at a reasonable rate?

Many thanks in advance!

Mark

Mark, I'm out that way on Monday. Funnily enough fitting to a 2016 model.
I'll drop you a message, see if the route works out. Thumbs Up

I carry plenty of stock of the parts. Thumbs Up

Huge thanks Bodsy!

Very good service, very friendly and it works a treat. That certainly saved me plenty of faffing and trying to get someone to program the car if i fitted it myself! Very Happy
