Timing belt snapped!

Hi I’m new to the site and was wondering if anyone can help me? The timing belt has snapped on my disco 3. It was replaced less than two years ago and 25000 miles ago. Some people have said it should be under warranty but the garage doing it has said it’s only a years warranty. My local garage has told me it’s not even worth checking for damage and just to replace the engine. Does anyone have any experience of this happening and give me some advice in what to do next? Thanks in advance

as lynalldiscovery says. Unusual for the belt to snap, more likely the tensioner has broken the oil pump casting, and it's all let go. Sad

The oil light did come on first then it lost all power it was the recovery driver who said it was the timing belt

The recovery driver is right it is most likely the belt, but the belt itself hasnt failed, the timing belt tensioner is mounted to the oil pump casing, well known fault, like I said above search is your friend, loads of info out there.

I’ve been having a look this looks like a really common fault and Landy are doing nothing about it? Looks like I’ll be forking out a large garage bill. Why did they not change the pump when they did the timing belt? Censored

Sad tale.

Do you have a full LR service history?

Presumably the Front Belt, Tensioner, and Idler Pulley Plus Bolts (In the Kit), were all changed at the correct time?

Was this done by an indy or JLR franchisee? Did they suggest that the pump be changed?

I have a FSH just before I bought it there is a receipt for supply and fit of timing belt but no mention of the oil pump. This was 20 months ago now and they said there’s only a 1 year warranty on work and parts. But maybe this will help with the claim with the finance company? Who knows

LR, and hence LR dealers, don’t think this is a problem so it’s up to the owner to make sure it’s done. Welcome to LR ownership. Thumbs Up

I love my disco and it’s the best vehicle I’ve ever owned but for the price of parts etc you’d expect more reliability

I dont think parts prices are any different to other makes of cars?
All large modern cars are expensive to run and fix.
