Tip of the week

I few nuggets of knowledge you may or may not know but I thought I'd share one each week. These were mostly picked up while listening to the LR assistance mechanic during my many call outs or on the LR experience course. My apologies in advance if any of these are covered in the manual etc etc etc.....for those who don't read the manual here goes.

Did you know:-

If you have the manual transmission ( not sure about auto ) you can hold down the park brake switch for a few seconds before switching off the ignition and this prevents the parkbrake from coming on automatically. Park it in gear and it'll stop the brakes from freezing on a cold night.

I didn't and suffered this earlier in the year Smile

FWIW, the parking brake does not come on automatically in my NAS V8 auto.

It sometimes doesn't shut off, though Razz

the EPB comes on when you switch off and releases when driving away in an auto... shame it doesn't do this in a manual as well ?

Wish we could hack this car like a computer !

As far as I remember (and I'll test this tomorrow) it comes on automatically if you've pulled the key out and it detects that the car is moving, presumaby the override is to preven this happening

As I said I'm not sure about the Auto functionality of the EPB but on the manual it comes on automatically when you switch off. The tip is to prevent this so your EPB doesn't freeze on a cold night....so it functions more like a standard parking brake that you can leave off is needed. It sounds like it should override the automatic functionality too. I think the fact it doesn't release on a manual when driving away is a good, it gives you proper hill-start control that aids on steep on/off road gradientswhen even the anti-stall can't cope.

Tip fpr this week !

Did you know that you can buy the rubber dash mat that is supplied on vehilces without a nav screen?.

Since I have a nav screen it struck me that something was missing from this part of the dash. Other discos always have a mat in any dash-tray and I wanted one for this part of the dash too.

The part code of the LR shaped mat (for no nav screen) is FAH500022PVJ and costs £8+vat. It needs to be cut down, but the result is great (as far as I am concerned!)
Not sure what to do with the 'spare' mat, ? cover the nav screen when parked up maybe ?

Here are the blue peter instructions;

Another tip is the CD cartridge for the upper glovebox is also available at £5.50 +VAT (you get this for free with the factory fit cool box).

Excellent, I will go and buy one tomorrow. I like to keep a pen in the car, and the mat will stop it sliding around.

Has anyone with sat nav noticed that the paint on the edge of the surround is wearing out? It is where you will tend to rest your wrist, just above the hazard warning switch, while using the touch screen. The paint on mine has gone very shiny, and looks like it may wear through eventually.

This might be old news to others but was new to me.

I accidentally knocked the radio power button on one day without the key in the ignition and the radio/CD turned on. This is the first of this function for me. It's great when you want to change CD's and you don't have the key. When you switch the radio off and then start the car up the radio turns back on as if it was never turned off - very nifty Very Happy .

Why don't you use the little rubber pen clip in the top glove box for your pen. I thought this was a nice touch and very useful. Stops the chance of a pen flying around or scratching the dash.

DiscoMad,

Do you have the code for the CD Cartridge??

That would be a very useful thing to have.

Cheers
