Top Gear's Original D3 Test Drive |
|
Taking it up a Scottish mountain with only mud terrain tyres and a winch added over and above standard kit
&NR=1
Above is Part 1 - Part's 2 & 3 come up following the end of Part's 1 & 2 respectively
Seems to have been added to You tube fairly recently - apologies if it's been posted before.
I remember it when it was originally on - made me want a Disco then........and now I have one

When this was originally shown, it made me go out and order a new D3, picked it up on 29th Nov 2004, did nearly 130k miles in it, now on my second D3.
Clarkson did more for sales of the D3 with that program, than any of LR's initial marketing did.

Good to see it again, absolute class
Makes me feel proud for the extremely well engineered pile of various metals and electronics Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:
"What is the first rule when overlanding?"
I would Reply:
"Duratrac"

Aren't all episodes on the bbc site then?
A few months ago, the 'Bolivian' adventure was on here (we are running behind a few years), I couldn't see it completely. I watched the rest of the episode on the bbc site.

I also remember that Clarkson won an end of year Top Gear award - Cock of the Year, I think (the award was, I seem to remember a chicken statuette)
Apparently, following filming the helicopter which had been used for the aerial shots landed and picked him up - so he could get home quickly.
On his arrival home he emptied out his pockets and found..........
.........the key to the Disco which was, of course, still at the top of the mountain 14 Disco 4 HSE

I watched it too.. such a change from the Discovery 2 I was unsure about it with the press release images in the magazines....
That changed when watching that episode of Top Gear.. It made me want one after seeing what it did with a winch and some knobbly tyres!!!

Bought mine after seeing it. Had a D2 at the time - but that swung it
Haven't looked recently, but the quote about dropping your 500m watch in the washing up bowl is brilliant - use that all the time 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

Whenever I try to watch something on the BBC site it says: "Not available in your country", how come you can watch them?

Just checked and I'm getting that now too. I'm quite sure I have watched Bolivia at BBC though.
If you are specifically after Top Gear, they are available at Veronica (just the last one) or at http://www.hebikietsgemist.nl/programma/14...-gear.html (which also links to Veronica strange enough).
You could use an anonimizer (google for anonimous surfing) but I haven't tried that and surely haven't done so last time.
