I have read through alot of the past eamils and found a link to the dynamic 17 inch steel rims, but was interested to know if anyone has sourced alternative 17 inch rims. Ideally I would like to rum 17x8 rims shod with Goodyear 265/70/17 MTR's (31.6in diameter) as my off road set of wheel leaving the standard 18inch issue for the black top.
If anyone has a ste of factory 17inch rims up for sale please contact me.
Cheers
Horto

Sorry Horto, no 17" rims available from me but be aware of two issues if you were to fit the 265/70R17s.
1. The tyres are 5.5% larger in circumference and will make your speedo read lower than actual speed. (At 100 kmh indicated, you would be doing 105 kmh.)
2. There may be a rubbing issue with that tyre width on the plastic inside the rear wheel arch.
Search this forum for other tyre sizes and interference problems.
The tyre options are fairly limited.

I have the 265/70R17 BFG's and the only time they rub is when I am on full lock and in reverse. And then it is only very slight. D4: Expedition Rack, 104 Litre Long Range Tank, Raised Air Intake

Horto - I know Bulleen Tyrepower had the Performance rims...
Hoping to make it Sunday and would be great to catchup - some synergy too - we met on the first Disco2 trip we ever did, so should hook up on our fiurst Disco3 trip too.

Thank Simon
Yes it a new chapter in away. Went on plenty of great trips withg the D2 group, and hope to continue too, but also look forward to participating with the d3 group.
Has anyone acyually tried fitting a D2 wheel on the D3? I suspect the 16 dont go over the brake calipers.

Horto22,
A few of us have the Performance Wheels BB6 rims (17*8). Also GMAX make a wheel 17*8 M168 which is also suitable. Both have the same offset of 38mm and correct load rating.
They are available at most tyre dealers who can get Performance Wheels (Sth Aust company) or GMAX wheels (not sure where they are made).
The tyre that is close to the OEM tyre diameter is the Cooper 245/70/17 (ST or STT). I've run both patterns and would never go near ST's again. They were replaced under warranty and I have STT's now.
Check them out on Sunday if your coming.

Thanks Chris,
I was thinking of going for the next size up, in the Goodyear MTR's which is a tyre I have heard plenty of good things about and very few negatives. They are available in 265/70-17 (804mm diametre or 31.6 inch diameter)
Do you know much about this size on the D3? Read past post wouldseam to indicate these should fit ok with maybe the slightest of rubbing. Do you know if this size or what the max size is that can be carried as a spare in the factory spare position?
How have you found the 245/70/17 goes as far as rutt clearance etc compared to other vehicle/tyre combinations?
Cheers

Horto - I'm running 32" Mickey Thompson ATZ - and loved the MTRs on the D2!
I have only noticed rubbing on the 32" tyres on the D3 if cornering sharply at speed at normal ride height. But now that the Grand Prix is over, that shouldn't be a problem for a while..

Horto,
The 245/70/17 is 30.5" compared to 30" for the OEM.
Ruts are varying in depth and you rarely get the D3 scraping. The fibreglass spare tyre heat shields will scrape and get damaged when 4WDing and the exhausts are a prone to getting dinged but that is common and maybe another 1" would help but in most cases proper wheel placement will avoid most damage.
I think other have fitted large dia tyres because they didn't like the Coopers or are running 18" rims and it wasn't so much a ground clearance thing but a preference for another tyre brand.
