Do I need Warranty cover?

Hi all, two days into my ownership and have been thinking about Warranty cover as I know these lovely beasts can end up costing you loads.

so 1st question, is do I need this kind of cover? (or can i stick £50 quid away into a savings acoount)

2nd question, I just spoke to warranty direct and was quoted £639 with 13months for the proce of 12 with "Secure Cover", which they said covers most things, but not nreaks bads, discs etc....I can also pay in 4 int free installments. The pay reduced parts amounts once you go past the 70k, 80k etc miles (I'm on 68k at the moment.

Thoughts welcome

Cheers
Ieuan

If you do decide to get cover from Warranty Direct, do some searches on here. You will find members who have pushed them to improve the cover, including removal of betterment. My experience over one year was good - they paid out when required. However, as I am now almost at 130k miles they say they will not renew, despite confirming they would last year.

Right, I've gone back to them and asked for the removal of "Betterment" as well as upgrading me to "Extra Care" which includes a fairly detailed suspension cover:

Suspension
Bushes, hydraulic pump & reservoir & regulator valve
& pressure spheres, self levelling suspension actuators,
shock absorbers, wishbones & control arms &
connecting joints, road springs and wheel hubs
&bearings.

Finally, I asked for a monthly payment agreement (Well you never know unless you ask!)

Will see what they say

Cheers

Does it include wear and tear?

My experience of a warranty from someone else, I paid out about £1500 for three years cover (a few years ago, so maybe not far from what you have been quoted) and only ever had one claim accepted for £350 ish even though I had to have 6 new injectors and a replacement engine!

You don't NEED a warranty. There are more companies offering replacement parts at much more competitive prices than there were a few years ago.
If you are handy with the spanners, you can save a fortune in labour.

Then, we get onto the issue of whether they will actually honour the claims made...

It's a really tough call to make Big Cry

I've had a series 2 for a few years, I've had Mahindra jeeps, so well used to tinkering & using a spanner, but "I don't do Electrics" and I don't do complicated stuff so the complexity of the Disco does frighten me a bit......

Not sure what to do, perhaps taking one out for the 1st year would be an option, then I can slowly get used to owning this big beast

Let's see what they come back with and then make a decision

They wanted £755/£70.50 per month for removal of 'Betterment' and the extra Care package....or "Secure Care" with betterment at £55 per month.

I'm thinking it may be better to put £50/£60 away each month and see what happens?

To be honest i don't see the warranty worth taking out on a D3 UNLESS it definately has the suspension cover (probably one of the most likely of things to go wrong) Rolling Eyes

I was in the same boat as you - monthly payments for a warranty or equivalent amount into a 'rainy day' account. I ended up going down the warranty route with Warranty Direct and posted my deal here - http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic98844.html

No worries at all Ieuan. Thumbs Up

You'll soon learn - if you haven't already - that this place is a mine of information for newbies like us.

Good luck with the warranty search, let us know how you get on.

So Go Car, will cover me for: 12 months is £376.65 or 24 months £580.45 or 36 months £733.30

Sound ok, but the don't cover Wear and Tear, they have something called Ultimate warranty which does, but it's up to 60k miles....so I'm over this one........

Trouble is without Wear and Tear, I think it gives the WTY company a get-out clause....did a google search and found this:
http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j...6721,d.ZG4

I also found one called Warranty Wise, has Quentin Wilson's face on the front of the site, but they wanted £750 for 1 year and £1800 for 3 years cover or £75 a month...

The Warranty Direct quote for taking out betterment and covering suspension (Extra Care) was £70.50 a month (£846 total)

This is worse than choosing pet insurance!!!

So £100 saved a month = £1200 a year, £3600 over three years

Big Cry More thinking time now.....I have 3 months cover witht he garage....perhaps I leave it a few months and see???

Warranty wise was the one I had, they have a great NO department!

That was why I ended up with just the AA breakdown cover, doesn't cover everything (like most at that age) but is cheap.

If it doesn't have wear and tear I personally think it is pointless
