Hi Guys (And I am sure Gals!)
Sorry if this is in the wonrg section.
Tip of the week:
I cruise alot at 50mph (mainly because of the road conditions) and have noticed that if you have the autobox in 'D' it is actually only in 5th Gear, so quickly tap the gears across to sport and force a change to 6th then drop back to Auto mode and you will save 500rpm at 50mph!
Note this will not work unless you are goling at least 48mph (on my model [SE])
But it does save fuel and on a long run could save all of us some money and help.
Hope this helps
Richard

Steady on BravoOne, don't be too hasty in getting to the high gears too soon. It don't always compute with good electronic controls, such as in the D3.
For instance when cruising down a hill the electronics will actually cut off the gas to save fuel. Also the optimimum revs are 1900 to 2000 in the TDV6. That means if you stay in 4th gear for instance at those revs, you will more than likely get even better mpg results.
The LR and other sophicated vehicles are now based on good well tried truck technology. A truck can drive for miles in 7th gear and get better results than in 8th or similar. They often are driven through built up areas in 6th gear. Trucks have a vital green band in the tacho now around the 1300 rpm depending on the make of truck and that is god (well it should be if the driver is any good) to the driver.
D3 is not a lot different. Fill your tank and try the full tank to refill again test. Thats when it is all reveilled.

Basically that is about a £500 per annum saving if you cover 25,000 miles per year.
