My new HSE, and a few questions

Howdy all,

Great Forum - have found loads of info to aid in my purchase, as I have now moved up from a Kia Sorento, to a brand new Disco 3 HSE TDV6 auto in Silver with black leather - collected her last week.

So far - well impressed - certainly a leap up from my good old kia Wink

Also, in a week, I have had side steps, front and rear lamp guards, tow bar and window tints, together with the Bandit film (smash proof) fitted.

My only questions are:

I like to get her dirty, and do a bit of off-roading, on my Kia, I had BF Goodrich A/T's which were great. but they don't do them in 19" - so any recommendations for a good 50/50 tyre?

Also, wanting to put on some Driving Lamps - are the LR ones worth the pennies, or are there better ones out there - I like the LR ones as they have the grilles to match my light guards.

Is there a good place to take a live feed (iginition fed) as will be fitting my Origin B2 at the weekend, and would like to hard wire the cradle in, and not use a cigarette lighter socket.

Finally, need to get some roof bars, for my roof box - my only question is, as my box is a 500 litre, I don't want to keep having to connect it to the bars on the roof, do the Thule version have the feet fixed in the runners, so you can just place the bars on the feet whilst in situe on the box.

I have made searches on the Forum, but ntohing really came up, sorry......

Cheers

Stuart

Hi and welcome

Don't bother with the LR lamps you cant tell if they are turned on or not.

Tyres Goodyear MTR are a good all round tyre.
In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Hi, and welcome to Disco3. We're sorry but all our operators are busy getting angry at media bias against 4x4s at the moment, but someone will be along to help as soon as the budget speech has finished to help you. Embarassed

Right, er, 19" wheels.... Sadly nobody makes a 50/50 tyre for the 19" Disco wheel (or at least none you can buy in the UK). If you plan on getting into the proper rough stuff and want something to get you up the north face of the Eiger on a rainy monday morning then there is only one choice and that's the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R. For a more road biased tyre there's Wrangler HP and HP AW, Michelin Synchrone and the Dunlop Grandtrek ST8000.

We recently had a trip to Salisbury plain and nearly half of us were on road tyres, me included. Even in the clay/chalk/treacle mix that we encountered we all kept going through thick and thin. Well almost all of us Mr. Green

If you do want an AT tyre then a change of wheel size may be in order, but that's a whole other debate.

Can't comment on lamps but would be interested to hear the answers you get as I'm probably going to get some later this year. The LR mounts, wiring and switch certainly look the mutts nuts but I'm not sure if I should look at lightforce et al for the lamp itself. Confused

Thule have recently come up with a new fitting kit for the D3 and I believe you can leave the legs on the car, although you'll always get wind noise from that kind of set up I guess?
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Thumbs Up nice info.

ref tyres...

The standard road tyres are very good for most terrains if you drive sensibly.

The only real downer with them is side wall protection. They will be prone damage more than an aggressive MT tyre.

If your poor like me, you'll get a set of 17" base wheels off ebay and use these for off road, and keep the smarter set for road work.

Hi stuart & Welcome Thumbs Up

I've the B2 hardwired into mine....I simply took power from one of the 12 V sockets below the hearter controls (they are switched) and fed the antenna cable under the carpet, to the passenger side front screen...really neat and effective...b2 itself mounted (actually just wedged) in the front cubby tray.

hold on a min and I'll go and snap some camera phone pics to show you

Thanks, cos I was debating hard where to put it, with the dash being sloped.....

Wiggs, thanks for the pics - will certainly be having fun at the weekend......

Thought as much with the LR lights, paying for the cosmetic look really, although the lights are fantastic on high beam, but if I am going to get some, then at least they should work good....

I don't suppose anyone has the new Thule feet fitted, to see how much extra wind noise if any you get - as the cabin is pretty well insulated....

Also, thanks for all the quick replies chaps Very Happy

Here you are...you want a switched supply coz then it comes on with the car and goes off with it also

there is an indentation in the dash that takes the gps antenna perfectly

Thanks for the pics - they speak a thousand words Smile

Might just pinch that idea of positioning the B2, but will have a good look around at the weekend to see if there is any other cubby for fitment (although I bet you have already done this before fitting yours.....)

its discreet and handy there, no holes required as it (in its cradle) just wedges in place on the rubber mat and under the ashtray/cubby hole...pops out every week to update it

to be honest, I never look at it prefering to have the voice prompts do all the work for me

I don't use the radar or laser bits of it as they were pish anyway Rolling Eyes

remember to put the gps receiver bit at either far side to avoid the heating elements in the HSE front windscreen

still reckon the b2 database is one of the best
