Engine seized and needing replaced 35k on clock |
|
Hi wondering if any other members have had engines needing replaced at 35k. The AA guy but it on a recovery vehicle and took it to the nearest dealership who told me the engine had seized. I have a 2010 D4 with 35k on the clock. Fortunately I have only had it for 6 months so still have the full 12 month warranty, 7,500 quid to replace was the verbal quote I got. I have lost all faith in Landrover now as I had the Disco 3 before this which was a nightmare to keep on the road, 10k in 4 years of repairs. Now looking for an alternative vehicle......any suggestions?
Thanks,
PW

Diagnosis is rather important !
Welcome PW - just sorry we haven't seen you in good times.
"Seize" is a pretty imprecise term..
Did it run out of oil, throw a cam belt, suffer an oil pump failure etc...
Please let us know what actually failed, under what circumstances, and preferably let us see photographs of the stripped engine.
I would have thought that you will have no problem selling your D4 with a new engine fitted.
Frankly I've had Land Rovers for more years than I can remember, yes there are problems sometime, but there's nothing else which appeals to me, although I am lucky enough to have other (classis) cars to use, should I like.
Good luck.

NJSS,
I will let you know as soon as it is out of the hospital....I am just frightened to ask right now, until it is back at my doorstep.

PW - welcome and, as others have said, sorry that it is under such circumstances...
Slightly different but way back when we needed child friendly cars, my wife was running around in a Renault Scenic - the tensioner for the timing chain decided to give up at a shade over 29,000 miles!
In that instance, the RAC dropped the vehicle into the local dealer, albeit after hours. This prompted an irate call from the dealer the next morning to suggest that 'I couldn't just drop things in' (keys had been posted with a note) and that 'they had a booking system for workshop time...'
Given that the service regime for the timing gear was 72,000 miles, they were some considerable way short of expectations... it then took them 6 weeks and a lot of aggro to do anything!
It sounds as if you are being looked after in terms of work - I'd keep close to the underlying issue and how they are resolving it if possible and, when it comes back, hope you keep and enjoy the vehicle to the max...
Good luck, keep us posted! D4 Commercial - 65 Plate, 2016MY

Yep had same thing...at around 30000km...sheared crank. All under warranty.... But lost faith in vehicle.... Ended up driving away in second new Disco4 in two years. Fantastic result from local Land Rover agents and I suspect Land Rover themselves. Near enough 40 degrees South!!!
