Key Programming

Took my D4 HSE to local dealer Shukers Shrewsbury yesterday to program a new key. They couldn't do it and what's worse my original working key is not fully functional now. I have to hold it under the steering wheel to start the car.
They are saying that it needs 2 new keys programming to the car Shocked . Its booked in for next Thursday.
Anyone else had this much trouble getting a new key programming to their D4?

key

Hi,

it took 3 visits to my Dealer to get the new key programmed.

1) Buggy firmware stopped "learning" of the new key
2) 3 weeks later - very interesting: LR UK discovered that my car has an older version of a controller unit, so they had to exchange that part first (the Garage asked LRD to help, so they connected to the car, shrugged their shoulders and asked LR UK to have a look via remote access, they found out, what to do. Modern times.
3) 1 week later: done - new unit, new firmware, new key = feeling of a new car.

Step 2 was the most interesting in my opinion. Well it's a Discovery, you know, but to detect "older" parts that are not updateable with latest software did puzzle me a little bit. The car is build in May 2012, not that classic car model.

And don't get me wrong: Me and my family really like the car very much. And the dealer and his workshop do an excellent job.

Very interesting mine is a 2010 model. 2 different dealers have now tried to pair anew key to my car. I think that they will have to change the key module to pair two new keys.
I will find out on Thursday hopefully.

One of my keys was falling apart on my '10-plate D4, so I asked for it to be replaced under warranty just before the expiry of the three years. Simple job became complicated because the module in the car refused to talk to either the dealer's computer or the new key. One new controller later, and I now have two keys not falling apart!

Did you already look for this easteregg in the LR Bulletin Board (TOPIx)?

Even if you are not logged in - the Bulletin titles give a lot of information what's the problem "dish of the day".

We all have to face the truth: We don't have cars of 1001 mass production of the same. Due to different suppliers of modules, different status of revision, different software / firmware we all are driving more or less prototypes of the same breed. As individual as the drives, aren't they? Laughing
